No it was sent to me as a link and I was taken aback that the sender felt it would strike a chord. I left it without comment to see what others thought. About the only thing I agree with is that much of the debate is wrong headed and pointless.

The various issues / incidents / events that led to the Levenson report were illegal and improper under existing laws. The orchestrated campaign to establish a "statutory regulation" to under pin a stronger self regulatory regime might have some, minimal, impact but I don't see it persuading the press to eschew illegality any more post its introduction than before.

I don't like the idea of statutory legislation - however minimal. It does imply some form of licensing by government which I would abhor.

    • Smallish job, would suit a sole trader rather than a Lordship Lane Carpets type company...
    • Sorry this just didn’t seem to belong to request a tradesperson. any good experiences? Not a chiropodist!
    • Crofton Park (borough of Lewisham) has a community notice board which as well as listing councillors is full of notices about local community activities of all sorts and for all ages. It is clean and tidy and only has one small fly poster (attached with one very small piece of tape, and easily removed - I didn't though). Crofton Park also has a lovely little community garden alongside the station, full of flowers, with lots of things of interest to kids,  and also obviously lovingly maintained. I don't know who the land belongs to - possibly the station, though access is via the adjoining road. If Lewisham council/Crofton Park residents can maintain a community notice board, why can't Southwark Council/East Dulwich residents?
