Can anyone recommend a maths tutor? My son is taking AS Statistics but after spending a year studying other subjects he has found it hard to pick up again, despite getting an A at GCSE.

We are in SE14. If anyone has any recommendations I'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

Dear paulaannemcm,

My name is Daniel Heanes. I have four years' experience of one-to-one tuition, mostly in mathematics, and some physics, with, mostly, A-level students as well as some GCSE and undergraduate university students, and would be delighted to help your son if you wished. My first degree was in Mathematics, at St John's College, Cambridge, and I then took Masters' degrees there and at UCL, where I am now completing a PhD in Medical Physics. My approach is to establish clear goals and build confidence by constantly connecting to what the student already knows. I took a year off during my undergraduate degree due to illness, and understand the dent in confidence and orientation that can come from a period of absence from a subject, especially a mathematical one. I also have experience of statistical techniques in my research work, as well as in studying and teaching A-level.

I work by word-of-mouth as well as with a number of agencies, and would be happy to provide references. Feel free to contact me on this forum or on either of the phone numbers below.

Best regards,

Daniel Heanes

    • You might want to try the Peckham Facebook community group. I am located in East Dulwich & have 2 well-used scratchers: A large single post (ideal for an adult cat) & a small cat tree with 2 short posts (ideal for kittens) While the wear & tear is nowhere near as bad as the one shown in the link below, ideally the sisal should be replaced to get the best use out of it (& neutralise the scent of another cat) hence why I haven't donated these to a shelter. You may find this link helpful. https://thegreenmadhouse.com/diy/how-to-repair-your-cat-scratcher But you can just get a brand new one between £10-£30 on Amazon that'll last much longer. It all depends on what type of scratcher you're looking for; material, size, vertical or horizontal. You'll little lion will let you know by whether they're currently scratching down or up, like a mat or armchair for example. More than happy to send location & leave in front garden for pickup.
    • Would happily take it off your hands! Preferably in Peckham. Thanks 🙏🏻
    • I understand that, but I can't really grasp how it works in practice, but never mind 😵‍💫
    • It's local independent shops supporting one another.
