Interesting article on BBC website yesterday (can't find the link) about how not to write round robins:

"Don?t go on about how successful your children have been?

?Don?t go on about what a brilliantly successful year you have had?

?Don?t go on about the brilliant holiday you had this year?

We get two each year, one wants me to throw-up. Knowing the family well their life is far from perfect, but you wouldn't believe it from the letter.

The other tells of the years worth of disasters, and odd goings on, which is welcome and amusing.

There are of course books and blogs on this sort of thing. Be interesting to hear your stories, and views for and against.

The original round robin was an 18th century letter signed in a circle by mutineers in the Navy or members of, then banned, trade unions. The idea being that the initial or leader's signature couldn't be identified by being at the head of a list of signatories.

The Lynne Truss BBC link on how best to handle todays Round Robins is amusing.

    • Well if it is being replaced by a Tesco, hopefully at least some of the Poundland staff might be employed by Tesco. If not, it would be nice if they got some sort of payoff. If the company is continuing, I don't know if they would be entitled to statutory redundancy payments, if such things still exist? .
    • Had to have similar done some years ago and went to Armstrong's in Forest Hill  (opposite the station)
    • Are you a home owner or renter? Are the upstairs neighbours owners or renters? If renting - may be a Housing Association tenant or council. The fact that you have support from ASBU can be in your favour especially if the upstairs tenant is council. Safer Neighbourhood Police Team often work closely with the ASBU and I have been  to SNT meetings where an officer from ASBU also attended.  We have been lucky as the vast majority of our neighbours have been very good. Only difficult one was a  mum with 2 young children who had a habit of throwing shoes/toys/bricks over the back fence. We had an elderly partially sighted relative living with us at the time and the kids made her their target. We had several words with the mother to very limited success. When other neighbours raised concerns, we found that social services were involved as the children were on the risk register.
