Wood/timber supplier & cutting services recommendation

Hi all

Just wanted to recommend and give you details for a great company I've found for wood supplies, who also offer wood cutting services.

They're called A Klass Joinery, and after the closure of Whitten Timber, they're a really good find.

Great for all your new year carpentry and woodworking projects, they're well priced, and provide an honest and friendly service.

Contact details are: Chris on 0207 732 1623 or mobile 07931 997483 or email: [email protected]

Thanks

Claire

Used Fulham Timber in 2019 for a large build. Found them really helpful, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. It was good to have been able to deal with the same purpose throughout and negotiate to an extent.

Whitten were never the cheapest, but convenient.

Shame Catford Timber went a couple of years ago as well.

It's pretty much a case of do a google search and chat to them about your requirements whilst seeing what level of discount they can offer you. As there is so much building work going on around SE22/23 keep your eyes peeled for timber deliveries and take a note of the companies.

Yes, this is good advice.

Buying timber/most building materials can be a bit of a minefield sometimes. I understand prices will fluctuate and quality varies but it's always a surprise when quotes from different suppliers arrive with what can be massive differences in price.

I realised the original poster is probably not affiliated with AKlass so have edited my original post.

Yes always best to get 3 quotes and compare them first, as the prices can really vary. The quality of the wood and cutting at Whitten Timber was very good, and we recently used A Klass for the first time, who provided the same very high quality wood and cutting service.

We used Whitten Timber for years for the landscaping side of our gardening company, as well as Catford Timber, which again was another closure.

Highly recommend A Klass as they're smaller than some of the other local timber merchants, so a bit more niche and bespoke in their offering.

A few to choose from.

    • As a cafe, yes. And they kept all the chandeliers they hadn't sold as an antique shop still hanging up. They had a real mouse problem, quite well covered up, however.
    • Ah yes, that's right. Didn't Chandelier sell a huge range of different kinds of tea?  That militaria shop was bonkers.
    • Spinach took over from Chandelier, which was then a cafe but had been an antique shop of the same name. Some shops up from Target Arms the militaria shop.
    • My friend and I once did a cocktail crawl down Lordship Lane.  I think we started at Black Cherry (now Franco Manca). It got off to a good start when I knocked mine over and had to buy another one. Liquorish was in there somewhere. The crawl ended with me carrying a chair and her a set of glasses, both bought from an antique shop at some point on the crawl, can't remember where and long gone. Was it where Spinach is now? Somewhere round there. The antique shop, not Spinach!
