Decluttering, advice and experience

As with many we have been decluttering over recent months, using this forum, ebay, other social networks, car boot sales, donating to charity shops and leaving out the front. With regards to the latter also picked up some good things on the street.

Good to hear how others are getting on, and a specific question.

Inherited several hundred football programmes mainly 60s and 70s. Value is low, even the cup finals and the like as they printed so many programmes. Gone are the days when collecting was all the rage.

So (a) bit the bullet and throw them away (b) sell as a complete job lot for few quid © split into smaller job lots and try ebay or a car boot sale. And if smaller job lots how to collate eg a mixture of teams or themes such as Scottish football, internationals.

Trying to sell on ebay for indfividual teams eg 5 QPR programmes, 10 Watford programmes, for a few quid but very very little interest.

Of the London clubs only have a reasonable number of Watford and Chelsea. Earlier did manage to sell most of the 75/6 QPR programmes as this was the best year in their history and they were the best programmes of their time.

Offer them for free on here or maybe give them to the Hamlet 12th Man who seem to have boxes of programmes at matches?

Then bite the bullet and bin them.

I have a pile of 2000AD specials I'm about to do the same with....

It's a bit of a sliding scale I think

If the dominating priority is to declutter then biting the bullet and recycling is the fastest, easiest and IMO best option

But if the scale leans towards redistribution, finding like minded people for the objects in question then I think that is good and noble but can lead to stasis and things just not happening

Back to malumbu tho - judging by general chatter amongst footie fans I know, I think it's a losing battle to try and find a home for the programmes. I would advise chucking

You could always employ ro-jaws to dispose of the 2000ad collection

Give them away.

The longer you hold out for pennies in return the meaner you might feel.

Ask around to see if someone can pick them up, drop them off if it's convenient, or ask for shipping fees from anyone else who's interested but farther away.

Failing these see if any creative folk can make something clever with them.

Thanks for the advice on the programmes. I'll keep you posted. I also found a programme for a 1998 athletics meet at the Palace that I was going to bin, until I found a certain Mohamed Farah won the under 17s middle distance race. I've got a stack of NMEs too, but see that concert photos and the like are framed and sold for ?20 or so if I can be bothered!

Love to hear about other's experiences of decluttering, or even recluttering!

I swing between thinking the THING is important v. the information and memory is more important.

Would scanning a photo be useful. A few yes but lots is effort.

I've been trying to give away the 3 volumed 'History of Irish Tennis' on this forum for the last 5 years, without success. I can't chuck them though as they amounted to many years work by someone I know, and they are an exceptional piece of work on that topic. They're too big to post to anyone, or at least it would be too costly. Any takers?

I found an old 1998 rugby international programme, which I was able to use to generate questions for a section in a nearly weekly tri nations pandemic Whatsapp quiz.

I'm not very good at decluttering, I think.

There?s nothing wrong with keeping things that you like and give you good memories, you just don?t need to keep it all out all the time.

I had five coffee makers, gave three away, was given another and I don?t use them...that?s clutter!!!!

As soon as you get rid of any book on Irish Tennis it'll suddenly become the book everyone who is anyone wants behind them during a zoom call.
