Cafe in Dulwich Park - FILTHY & HEALTH HAZARD

My husband and our two children went to the park on Thursday 3rd of January for a walk. I stopped at the cafe for a hot bowl of soup. The place was a 'hot' mess! It was absolutely filthy and stank to high heaven ( think scrambled eggs, pasta, bits of toast etc being ground underfoot + the pungent smell of wet dogs!). Every single unoccupied table was filthy. A member of staff was half heartedly sweeping up. Near the kitchen , open refuse bins provided a further aroma. The place made my stomach heave. How can staff think this is an acceptable and hygienic place to serve food? Quite few people chose to sit outside in the chill rather than sit inside in the filthy conditions. Do the staff think that because there is no direct competition in the park they don't have to maintain standards? This was my first ever visit to the cafe ( I have lived in the area since 1996). Would never take guests there. Southwark Council really need to look at this place . Absolutely disgusting.

What is funny is they have a hygiene rating of 5 on the door . Dread to think what the other places are like if that is a five .

They need to shut that cafe down and update it , better toilets , tables and chairs that are easier to clean and so on.

I refuse to eat there now . I just go in to buy seeds for the ducks .

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
    • Sometimes a shed or other installation has to have written approval from the freeholder i.e. Southwark, Southwark has (or did have) a Leaseholder Association.   Could also come under Anti Social Behaviour Unit.
    • Love Dulwich is great but has a large step in front. We have only been weekdays at Lunch time. Maria's next to Picture House is disabled friendly. Also can reserve table in advance. We did a Sunday lunch catch up with family - there were 8 of us.
    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
