Tree surgeons employed by the council to pollard trees on our street (Chadwick Rd) have smashed a couple of our bins and broken a stone planter.

The contractors made a pitiful attempt at fixing the planter themselves (see attached photos) which is obviously not acceptable.

Does anyone have any recommendations for local craftspeople who could either replace or repair it? Am I looking for a stonemason?

You could 'glue' it together using resin for concrete / masonry. You'll need a skeleton gun (?2 ish)and I'd get a couple of extra nozzles as it really goes off quickly when warm. In this cold weather it will take ages to set, so take your planter indoors for a day to let it warm up. It's a genuine 10 minute job when you get yourself set up and prepared for it.

Had a similar incident last summer when they dropped a big branch on a coping stone. After complaining to the council the contractor came round and used Evostick contact adhesive.

It fell apart again within one hour.

In the end I fixed it myself.

Many people have "ring door bells" which would show you who was responsible. It might strengthen your claim to get a proper tradesman/person in to fix.

Or it might show if someone else was responsible for the damage.

    • Hi Han92-ED, Have you taken a look at the Dulwich Park Runners?   They're super inclusive and cater for all levels and are very sociable. https://www.dulwichparkrunners.co.uk
    • Is it still operated by the Post Office though. I took this photo of a poster in the Post Office in September announcing the running of LL Post Office would soon pass to a franchisee ZCO Limited. Is the current chaos a result of that?
    • I think it’s depends when you go in as well. I’ve been in a few times in the last month and I haven’t had to wait more than 10 minutes.
    • Hey all 👋 I’m fairly new to running and have (perhaps ambitiously!) signed myself up for a half marathon later this year. I’d love to find a few others who are also just starting out and fancy running together in a relaxed, non-intimidating way.  The idea would be a very low-key, beginner-friendly run club — lots of jogging, walking breaks totally welcome, zero pressure on pace or distance. I’m particularly keen to create a small, supportive group for women who might feel more comfortable running as part of a group, especially around the park. I was thinking of doing gentle runs around Peckham Rye Park to start with. If that sounds like something you’d be up for, give me a shout — would be lovely to see if there’s enough interest to get something going 😊
