Is ?80 a reasonable rate for an electrician to do a straightforward job?

This feels like a tricky question, but I hope it doesn't get misinterpreted. I want to pay a fair price for the job.

I've got one rewiring job - to replace an old model Salus thermostat receiver box, with a slightly newer version of the same model.

The supplier has told me it is a totally straightforward job as it's pretty much swapping like for like. He even suggested I could do it myself in half an hour - but I'd prefer someone qualified! Someone came over to take a look and gave a quote for ?80 for the job.

Is that reasonable? As I say I want to pay a fair price for the job.

It looks like it requires no actual wiring and is a Plug in Unit. (similar to Mine)

The new receiver MAY be a different Frequency to your current Transmitter ang therefore bay not be compatible.

If you want to get someone qualified to come out ? ?80.00 is not unreasonable.

The Unit costs around ?16.00 is that included in the price ?

I've got the unit already - the ?80 was labour only. An electrician has just contacted me (recommended on EDF elsewhere) and is coming to fit it next week - he asked for exactly the rate that the Salus tech team thought it should cost, so I was happy to agree!

I have a Salus. Different frequencies are easily sorted.

I changed mine myself some years back when a nearby unit started interfering with mine and turning my boiler on and off at strange times. It just requires changing some little pegs, if memory serves.

The Salus helpline told me how to do it.

    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
