I ended up going to Grove Vale library yesterday afternoon and got out 5 books. In terms of space I would say it is roughly the size of Dulwich Children's Library. Whilst i was there saw 3 members of staff actively engaging with 'customers'. There were a family with 2 children, 4 adults and myself. Plenty of space to social distance. Noticed that all the bookcases were in wheels so space could be easily adapted.

I was told repeatedly by a staff member at Dulwich library that the delay was due to Health and Safety reviews .

That reviews had to be undertaken at all Southwark Libraries ,that Southwark's capacity to carry out reviews was limited and that it had not been an option to carry one out for Dulwich in anticipation of a reopening .

I did feel a degree of hostility for questioning why the H&S review was such a stumbling block . And an attitude that as there were a number of other Southwark libraries open ,that I was being demanding in wanting Dulwich to be fully operational as well .

There will no doubt be an Alice in Wonderland theme for the reopening .If it ever happens .

Hubby went there today - was informed that if you take a book from the shelf, you need to take it on loan. Grove vale and Peckham have boxes where if you remove a book from the shelf and decide you do not want to read it - you place it in a box where it goes for a 48 hour quarantine. Some of the non fiction books have been re allocated upstairs.

Imagine if the supermarkets made everyone put everything they touched but didn't buy into a 48hour quarantine box. Seems like a very unnecessary procedure.

    • Had a meal at Chern Thai  in Grove Vale today - a belated birthday meal for me. We have the lunch time specials as they are good value. Hubby used to go there every week but had not been for several months due to illness.  Pao was happy to see us again and as usual the food was excellent .   0208 693 9749
    • We now go to the Forest Hill pool - more expensive (we are silver swimmers at ED)  but much easier to book in person. Can book and pay for several swims in advance. Better and cleaner facilities.
    • So are you saying that smoking these awful vape things are not harmful to someone’s health Alan? I think Sue’s reply to my question explains about how vapes are addictive and also contain very high amounts of nicotine which is the main culprit for smoking related deaths?   Can someone tell me how much a vape thing  costs?
    • I'm down about 50% in numbers and more in species since three years ago.  Not sure if it is the weather, continual building works, the quality of my feed or the pigeons and parakeets putting off others.  Good conversation on Winterwatch on feeding tonight, including issues with spreading disease. Three years ago, likely to see long tailed tits, dunnocks, song thrushes, corvids, wood pigeons. black birds, black caps. Possibles - redwings. Unlikely to see any this weekend, only blue and great tits, robin, goldfinches, bloody feral pigeons.
