Schools sometimes have to take a decision to close on a morning if bad weather means insufficient staff will make it in to Safely supervise pupils, or if the school site isn't safe due to snow/ice.

Even if they do open, high levels of pupil absence often mean lessons don't run as normal. And where transport difficulties might mean travel home for staff is likely to be very difficult or dangerous, early closure is likely.

Staff are also affected if their own children are sent home from school.

And some parents wish to collect their children early.

Anyway, we will see. I am on standbybtoget up to the horniman if the chance arises!

The school is responsible for children until parents arrive, in case of closure, and staff living near the school are expected to be first in and last to leave on such days, so any pupils who can't be collected are looked after, don't worry.

    • Another vote for The Cheese Block on LL but for 20 adults, you'd better be willing to pay a fair chunk of money or hope that they'll be happy with very small amounts of cheese! Other than that, supermarket or search online for a large Christmas cheese hamper and take your pick. For example: https://www.finecheese.co.uk/collections/christmas-selections-hampers (only mentioning them as we had a gift hamper, much smaller than a big Christmas one, from them a while ago and it was very nice). I'm sure there are other excellent options.
