We've only recently started with Netflix and are having trouble with constant buffering and poor quality picture .

Our hub is some distance from the TV and I'm wondering if a wifi booster might help .Anyone got any views on this ?

Does anyone have any experience of using a booster ? Any recommended brand ?

I have a UniFi mesh network connected via Ethernet cables. Gives perfect coverage in a tall Victorian house where the brick tends to absorb signals. I?ve used the Linksys extenders before, generally they?re good but devices aren?t as good at switching between extenders as the signal gets weak.

A simpler solution if it?s just the TV is to run an Ethernet cable from your router to the TV provided it has a wired port (most do). My standard advice is hardwire everything you can to avoid congestion on the WiFi.

Thank you both .

alex_b yes Hardwire makes sense to me . Our netflix is via a small Roku device which does not only has 2 connection points .I'm thinking we would have to run the cable from the hub to the Roku device ? Am I correct ?

I would recommend a mesh (as shown by the cat) over a repeater

The repeater will set up a second Wi-Fi network so as you move from one section to the next you will need to reconnect to each network (most devices do it seamlessly but sometimes they try to retain the weaker signal) so it's not one seamless experience.

A mesh will give you a single Wi-Fi network through the whole property so no issues moving between locations

Downside is mesh costs a lot more but can result in a better experience

Their is a vast choice out there

Final option is to upgrade to a more powerful router that uses 802.11n but that's an expensive option at the moment 😱

Hi there, we moved recently to the area to a Victorian house and chose Sky as our broadband and TV provider.

We use lots of internet as my wife and I both work from home and had been home schooling our children. We noticed connection issues and tried Sky?s own boosters dotted around the house. We still had issues.

Having spoke to a friend who?s knowledgable about these things he suggested to options:

1. running cables through the house

2. using a modern WiFi system

Wiring the house wasn?t an option so we purchased Netgear Orbi RBR20 system (3 units) for ?275. The end result is we have rock solid + fast internet around the house.

Hope this helps!

Mine is a Netgear EX6110- WiFi range extender- AC1200 Dual Band.

I got it online from Currys in January for ?34.99.

We were having issues with Zoom freezing during Zoom singarounds we run.

The range extender has completely sorted it. The WiFi signal in the living room has gone from poor to good.

The router is in an upstairs office and the extender is in the hall.

Once it was set up there is nothing more to do.

Let me know if you have any questions.

ETA: I have a bog standard router from Plusnet. I didn't need to get a new one.

I did do something wrong when setting the extender up, and thought it had made no difference, but once I realised what I had done wrong (not properly reading the instructions, duh) it all worked just as I'd hoped!

Correct.

For once I?m impressed and saying so !!

All well-intended x

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
