At the moment my local Facebook groups (including the other East Dulwich Forum, East Dulwich Mums, SE23 Mums etc) are full of shared posts warning of attempted child abductions in south London. I think there have been maybe 5 or 6 conversations started in the last week. Is this actually happening and if so why isn't it in the news? I'm inclined to believe this is a case of people sharing "news" that they haven't actually verified in any way. But who am I to know. Can anyone share any light?
East Dulwich Mums is my group and I did cite that it should be taken with a pinch of salt since there is no evidence that these attempted abdication took place. Furthermore none took place in Dulwich hence I turned off commenting on group. As for the FB EDF, nothing is monitored on that group.

This isn't politics or culture wars we're talking about....its child abduction...there isn't 'another side to the story'...its child abduction.....I sincerely doubt even the perennially outraged would try to manufacture outrage about such a topic.

As it happens, our friends were in the park when a woman came up to them screaming about her son being missing. Turns out they managed to find him as he was leaving the park with a man who had offered the boy 'duck food' to feed the ducks. The bloke managed to scamper off. So while I may have heard that second hand....Im inclined to believe that my friends wouldn't concoct 'outrage' over such a thing for kicks....

Many many years ago on this forum, someone posted about an attempted child abduction in the area

At the time I was inclined to pooh-pooh it as there hand't been any official reports anywhere, and something as horrific as that would surely have made the papers/local news rather than say-so on a local forum - and I posted exactly that

I was talking absolute nonsense - it was a very real incident and the people involved really really don't need to hear randos claiming it's all made up.

Was it wrong of me to chuckle at this? ;-)

I remember the clowns in white vans that were rumoured to be everywhere once (was there some truth in it or not)

But if someone especially a child complains you have to investigate.

    • Why it a strange first post Sue?  We all have to start somewhere! These kids have created a situation where they have been very unpleasant. Surely their physical appearance etc is a key factor in identifying them?  I don’t understand. Are you defending these kids?
    • I can do the research but are more people watching cricket on TV now it went to the higher bidder or in 05 when it was on Channel 4?  I think that less kids are into cricket since it went off terrestrial.  I suppose I should have had TMS on.
    • Great finish to today, true Test cricket. India had the chance to kill it off a couple of times, but Carse and Tongue looked far better than I was expecting in a Test situation over the last few days. Still hoping for Jofra and Woody to be back for a couple games each.  PGC, do you reckon this 'Anderson -Tendulkar' series could make Tests a bit more interesting to the wider word? There's still Birmingham, north London, Manchester and south London to go. It's never going to be 'The Ashes', but as a five game series, I genuinely think this might get people a bit more involved.
    • LOL.   Lazy ass people who choose to litter!!!!   Really greenery does not cause anti social behaviour.   But I gotta say thanks for the giggle. You are so on point.   How can we work as a collective to make "The establishment move forward".   Net 0 is coming in fast.   And the only way forward is for everyone to work together
