How much to knock through lounge /support beam?

Does anyone know roughly how much it costs to knock through the lounge to dining room and inserting a supporting beam ?

You really need to involve Building Control before any work takes place.

It is your responsibility to to this despite what any builder may tell you.

Be very wary of anyone offering to do this on the cheap.

In an old rented flat I was watching TV when downstairs was renovating. There was a fair bit of banging going on, then suddently the house shook and I felt as though the floor had dropped.

I got up to investigate and sure enough, there were gaps between the floor and skirting board. I had to shoulder the door open.

When I knocked on the downstairs door, there was a bloke and a sledgehammer doing exactly what you propose...just not using any supports...

Council served a notice the next day...was pretty scary at the time. Thankfully it wasn't my flat.
