One of my colleagues went to the Cup Final at Wembley and required both. There was a stringent timetable that he had to stick to. He needed a PCR result (from a drop-in clinic) from within the last 48 hours and then a lateral flow from that morning. He found a local testing centre that were able to do it for him on the appropriate afternoon. I think though that as the Cup Final was a 'test event', he was able to get it done free of charge by booking through the govt website. https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

Different venues have different requirements, but if you only need a lateral flow test (and not a PCR or both PCR and lateral flow) then you'll need to go to a test centre and give an email contact only for your test result. They should email the result in a couple of hours which you can then print off.

Fred. It seems that some of the bigger Boots Chemists at the main London train stations (though none south of the river!) are doing lateral flow tests - but at ?60!!!! that's only ?5 less than their at home PCR test at ?65. Add in your cost of going into town and suddenly the same price. Here's hoping something local and cheaper appears on the horizon soon.

    • Thank you so much for that link. I had no idea they were there. Also there's a brilliant video on their website about making environmentally friendly gardens, both the hard landscaping materials and the plants used. I learned a lot. Though it was a bit disconcerting hearing someone talk with a fraightfully posh accent  exactly like the late Queen. I will definitely be visiting!

    • Franklins is lovely but it usually only has one veggie option, so if your vegetarian doesn't like it they might  find it hard to find something else. So it might be worth checking out in advance what's on the menu on the night you want to book. Maria's is also lovely, but it's very small. I didn't think they had a table large enough for 8, but reading the above I'm obviously wrong!
