Hi everyone,

We have 2 Healthy Rides, 13 places each, with registration on Eventbrite as usual. You must register on Eventbrite, details below. Please give a phone number when registering as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.

Ride 1

London Bridge to Hyde Park

12 mile flat ride round some of the iconic sites in Central London. Ideal for riders wanting to try riding in a bit of traffic in a group. Great for gaining confidence. Start/finish from the Southwark Gateway Needle at the south end of London Bridge, conveniently close to London Bridge Station if you want to get to the start by surface rail. Route: London Bridge, Cannon Street, Cycleway 3, Parliament Sq, St James's Park (Birdcage Walk), Buck House, Green Park, Hyde Park, (alongside The Serpentine, turn left onto West Carriage Drive, over bridge, left onto South Carriage Drive, past Hyde Park Barracks,) Green Park, Buck House, St James's Park (The Mall), Parliament Sq, Westminster Bridge, Belvedere Road, Upper Ground, London Bridge. Simon leading.

Ride 2

Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Trinity Buoy Wharf, Barrier Park Loop

Fascinating ride through river and dock side East London. About 15 miles, 3.5 hours, including coffee break. Meet at Greenwich Station, 9.30 to get DLR train to Mudchute (bring face mask and travel pass). OR meet at tunnel exit at Island Gardens at 9.45 (for people happy to carry bikes down/up steps at Greenwich Foot Tunnel, or who can ride directly to Island Gardens). Aim is to finish at Cutty Sark at approx. 1pm. Trinity Buoy Wharf (https://www.trinitybuoywharf.com/) has the Faraday Shed, a tree in a taxi on a Caf?, a lighthouse and more. If you have never visited, this is your chance. Barrier Park on the north bank gives terrific views of, you guessed it, the Thames Flood Barrier. Return route probably via Woolwich Ferry and the Thames Path. Last ridden Feb 2018, report and photos here (http://healthyrider.weebly.com/healthy-ride-reports-jan-march-2018.html). Amanda leading.

    • I didn't say wedge it "slightly" open. I meant to wedge it fully open.
    • I have a rescue Spanish greyhound (galgo) from the charity mentioned above. You can contact Greyhounds in Need or one of the more local Kent greyhound rescue charities. They are fantastic family dogs. They do love walkies 2 or 3 times a day but they actually don't need to be walked too far and then they will happily loaf around on the sofa being very chill. They are brilliant with kids but not recommended if you own a cat as they have a strong prey drive. They also should be kept on the lead in local parks. They prefer to be around other sight-hounds (well my one does) and there are loads of local sighthound owners in Peckham, Crystal Palace etc and a very lively WhatsApp group that is brilliant if you need dog sitting as you can usually find someone to do that for free in return for you looking after the dog at a later date etc.
    • @Jenijenjen I assure you we are always polite and friendly too! Which is why the behaviour we have been receiving is so frustrating. The kids always leave her with a “Thank you have a lovely day”  Our concern is leaving the gate slightly wedged doesn’t stop the action of slamming it open and closed…still leading to damage
    • If you're talking about who I think you are, I find them more exuberant than rude and usually smiling and polite. But then, I'm usually smiling and polite to them. Can you not wedge open your gate when you're expecting them?
