Obviously a little bit of controversy/attention in the first week for GB news with the Stop Funding Hate people and various corporates 'pausing' advertising.

While many on here would not be surprised to learn that I was very keen to see how they positioned their 'non-woke' agenda.....I've got to say I'm rather disappointed from the few times I've tuned in...

I'm aware that advertisers are worried about wether the messaging aligns with their corporates values...but if I was them, I'd be more concerned that it all just seems a bit sh-t and amateurish...

The bits that I have tuned into have seen very little in the way of 'news'.....instead....dull and stilted conversation between GB news journos and presenters (with very few 'guests') chatting about 'the issues that matter' apparently...replete with faux joviality and flat jokes.....makes me reach for the remote....

I think they've forgotten that no matter what the political bias....it's still needs to be watchable...

All that said....perhaps I should be more lenient in the first week as with any new business venture...

Let?s be honest, if I started a haulage company, you?d not expect to see my trucks skidding and jackknifing all over the place would you?!

No, because you?d expect serious professionalism from the off, people who knew how to drive their HGV lorries.

But it?s ?early days? at wobbly TV channel GBREXITISGREATNEWS and they?re clunking around with the greatest cast of misfits ever. Shit sets, shit lighting, shit sound.

It?s brilliant, keep it up. 😆😂

This is a strange quote - almost as if he doesn't know that CNN and GB News are complete opposites with no synergy at all :)

"Discovery CEO David Zaslav said last week that, alongside CNN, GB News will be an important part of the merged Discovery and WarnerMedia outfit. He told press: ?We love CNN. If you go to Europe we?re entertainment, non-fiction, the leader in sports and we?ve been on attack with news. We?ve just made a very big investment in the UK [in GB News], in terms of direction for us, and our plan was to roll across Europe, because we believe one of the differentiators is live, news, live sports.?

It is the epitome of the Brexit situation, pretending

?everything?s fine? and people involved looking away with slightly frozen faces.

Even Iranian state TV is better than this.

On a serious viewing content note, if this is where people find refuge from a so called ?radical left wing? agenda, GOD help all of us. This really is for people scared of their own shadows.

I hope it bleeds to death and slowly turns to dust. I?m all for viewers choice, but even Orwell didn?t envisage the state of mind of this kind of cark.

To be fair, this is totally the response the watchers of GBNEWS say of ?us? libs

I went for lunch with the outlaws. They didn?t care one iota about the quality, the appearance, the clunking of the channel, not a bit.

?The left have it in for them? was the resounding hand flip dismissal.

So there you go🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree with all problems, as outlined in my OP.....but it's pretty hard to argue that there's anything incorrect about this statement given SFH's campaigning.....

I tuned in out of curiosity a couple of times during the week. Both times, I found myself quite engaged with what was going on whereas I was expecting a complete car crash.

Of course there's a few glitches. It's a new, LIVE TV channel, with a budget that is targeting 100,000 or so UK viewers. It can't compete against the budgets of Sky News and BBC, which are news divisions of much larger organisations and can benefit from the economies of scale of a multi-genre broadcaster. Anyone who expects a brand new, live TV channel to be slick from day one needs their head examined.

I've read a lot on social media this week too and find that the #GBNewsfails hashtags are pretty childish and unpleasant in many cases. They remind me of the bullies sitting at the back of the class, waiting for the new kid to do something that they can all laugh at.

There's not enough actual News on the channel, but that goes along with the budgets. I find the outside broadcasts quite fun, to be honest, and the reporters all seem to be really enjoying themselves. There's been criticism of the lack of overseas news, but it's aiming to be a "local" GB news channel - you wouldn't criticise BBC London News for not reporting news from Newcastle.

I've seen very little of the "right wing echo chamber" stuff that was reported in the first couple of days. One of the presenters is a bit anti-masky, but they don't hold back from having guests that fight back about this stance, and they offer a balanced view.

It was Stop Funding Hate's campaigning that made me stop to take a look. Their campaign is nothing but hate itself, bullying advertisers into pulling advertisements on the basis that the channel is "peddling hate" which it clearly does not. It's good that it's made advertisers stop and think about where they are advertising and it's good that GBNews have stuck up for themselves.

It's not going to replace BBC News for me but I'll look in again from time to time. I think that once the bullies and people hoping for failure lose interest, it has a good future ahead of it.

I deliver their newspapers that you see them with on the desk and them looking through every morning..... they are based in paddington at north wharf road next to the premier league building.... I have seen the presenters a few times when been delivering there and they are all pleasant and friendly... I like watching it when I get home in the morning

Tom Harwood asked the PM a question the other day and he was given a lot of time - more than most other journalists although apparently Sky News and BBC News were trying to veto GB News representation on the UK News Pooling System as they don't contribute enough (can't find the current state of play)

Also seems like India Willougby has quit Sky News over Trans issues. The Dan Wootton show seems to be the most extreme of the lot (I don't watch so am going by others comments - but it always seems to kick off there)

There you go. Nothing to see here... move along. Disappointing for both tribes ? the 'thank goodness there's some real British news on for a change' bunch and the 'oh my goodness, look at these disgusting and dangerous people' lot.

    • I’m in exactly the same position.  They badgered me for ages to have a water meter fitted.  I’d prevaricated simply because it’s so tedious dealing with these people but eventually gave in when the communications became increasingly frequent and aggressive and it was done in March 2023. I just assumed I’d then be charged on actual consumption but I received an email this morning with details of the latest price increase and it said, “Since your property doesn’t have a water meter, your bill is calculated in advance based on fixed rates rather than water usage”.  I’m sure they’ve realised I’d be paying much less if they billed me on actual consumption but have not gone out of their way to inform me.  Trawling through their website, for me anyway, is an unutterably tedious chore, but I think I’ll now have to work up the energy over the weekend to pick up the phone on Monday morning and have a word with them.
    • Great Service again from Andy.  Contacted him with a couple of issues with toilet cistern and shower.  He came over and sorted it all out quickly. Good advice given, reasonable charge for the jobs.  Highly recommend Andy!
    • Just seen this.  Your post was a bit unnecessary.  I was simply responding to the previous post that children should be cycling on the pavement. But as you say I know shed loads about transport.  Not to the depths that some go down to the minutia.  Some call me the space cowboy.  Some call me the gangster of love.  I think of myself as the people's poet.  You have to laugh at yourself. Echoing what DKH said, we weren't there, you don't know the parent was making a snide remark, My favourite Dulwich parent story was a few years ago were friends when we were in the Herne garden a few years ago, who let their children run riot.  Bless.  One decided to turn the hose on spraying some poor drinkers.  Now most of us would be mortified, but the friends welcomed their child's creativity.
