Quick plug for occasional Healthy Rider Simon Saville. He is half way through his Lands End to John O?Groats ride to raise funds for Butterfly Conservation, more here: https://butterfly-conservation.org/news-and-blog/time-to-act-bike-for-butterflies?fbclid=IwAR1UTzU4N7eY2biBJS-QkrPBVbwLIWKl4fUpVP-eTX8_Gu4au8G4ZoogSyY

This week we have two Southwark Healthy Rides both starting from Canada Water at 10am. Registration on Eventbrite as usual. When you register on Eventbrite, link details below, please give a phone number as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling.

Canada Water, Greenwich, Tower Bridge Loop

10.00 am to 12.30pm. Start/finish at Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station, SE16 7AR. Easy 12 mile loop using DLR to cross river at Greenwich (mask + travel pass or equivalent needed) and returning over Tower Bridge. No hills, mostly off road or quiet streets. Tower Bridge can be busy, but strict 20 mph and no awkward side turnings, so not as bad as people think. Route will be mostly Thames path to Greenwich station (main station, not DLR or Cutty Sark), train to Mudchute, through Canary Wharf, more Thames path to Shadwell Basin, then canals route to Tower Bridge. From Tower Bridge back on Thames path (Cycleway 14) to Canada Water. It will be possible to join this ride at Greenwich Station. Be at the man station entrance by the Novotel on Greenwich High Road sharp at 10.30. Simon leading.

Westward loop from Canada Water to Central London

10am to 12.30pm. Start/finish at Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station, SE16 7AR. Flat ride into central London led by Philippa. Not certain of the route yet but will involve crossing some bridges and, possibly, sighting some elephants.

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of southwark cyclists. We are a borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/ and the LCC's website is here: https://www.lcc.org.uk/. Any questions, text Bruce on 07729 279 945

Unusually there are plenty of slots left for the tides tomorrow (July 10th). Both rides 2.5 hours and starting at Canada Water at 10. Forecast 18 degrees and 60 % chance of a shower. So not perfect, but not dire either. Links below.

Canada Water, Greenwich, Tower Bridge Loop 10am start

Westward loop from Canada Water to Central London 10am start. Plan is the search for the herds of elephants currently present in several locations.

    • Useful link, thanks. I see that neither of the Dulwich Hill councillors are standing again but one of the new Labour candidates for DH recently left the Lib Dems… The Greens are led by someone who left the Lib Dems and full of people who left Labour. Reform is full of those who left the Tories. And the Tories are full of those who left our planet some time ago. Confused? You will be!
    • I'm sorry to learn that though Liam does seems well qualified. Hopefully with McAsh gone, Southwark Labour will turn to Charlie to fill the gap.
    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
