Hello!

Is anyone else tired of the three or four men congregating on the benches on Choumert rd drinking, taking drugs, playing crap music until 1am, urinating up cars and trying to steal bikes?

I live opposite and i've tried to ask them nicely to please keep it down especially when it's past midnight. I often get told to F myself and to go away.

I've reported it to the noise pollution but not sure what else can be done since it doesn't seem serious enough for the police.

I just wondered if anyone else living close thought the same?

I would phone the non-urgent police number when it is happening - drunk & disorderly as well as a public order offence if they are swearing at you etc. in a public space. Officers in uniform will hold more sway unfortunately, and can require them to move along or arrest them if their behaviour deteriorates.

I think this is a long term problem - we live nearby (but not close enough to be affected daily) and the benches have always attracted drinkers in the time we?ve lived here.

Sorry you are suffering.

Don't hold breath for the council.

We had a similar problem when I lived on East Dulwich Road directly opposite Goose Green about 20/21 years ago.

We got a group of residents to go have a word about expected behavior in our area.

Unfortunately the words fell on deaf ears so the next night myself and a few residents went and conducted aggressive negotiations with the said drinkers.

Didn't have any major issues for the next few years. Job done.

I believe that The Lane safer neighbourhood police team have this on their list of ward priorities and you should contact that team directly to report any issues rather than the council who are not the right people to deal with this

It's potentially a multi agency issue and the starting point is the SNT.

Southwark have extra legal controls against street drinking which apply to all areas except Dulwich Village - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/drugs-and-alcohol?chapter=3

So the Police already have specific powers to confiscate alcohol etc at this location.

    • By now you’ve hopefully seen that our main demonstration against Trump’s state visit is in London on Wednesday. Many of you have also asked, though, about how you can help ‘welcome’ Donald Trump to Windsor when he arrives there tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. So here’s the plan: We’re asking you to come and line Windsor High Street tomorrow in a peaceful, static protest.  Time: 6pm, Tue 16 Sept Location: Assemble outside Windsor Parish Church, High St, Windsor SL4 1LS and then spread out along the High Street. Grab some cardboard and a pen and make a homemade sign to show Donald Trump and his supporters what you think of them!  The world’s media will be in Windsor to cover the state visit, so showing visually that he is not welcome will send an important message far and wide. If you are coming then please join this Signal chat group for important updates.     Protest safety Please buddy up and come with someone else You have a right to peacefully demonstrate, but we are expecting a high police presence. Remain non-violent and non-confrontational, and do not talk to the police. It may be better to dress inconspicuously, not like an ‘activist’ We plan on ending at 7.30pm. Please leave in groups of 5–10 and make sure you have a bust card This action is entirely legal but we still recommend that you read this key advice when going on a protest to know your rights. Remember:  No comment No personal details Ask ‘under what power?’ No duty solicitor Don’t accept a caution Here is the protest support line: 07946 541 511 and here is more information on Stop & Search under the Public Order Act.   Thank you for being part of the movement against Trump. In solidarity, Stop Trump Coalition
    • We booked a day when we could drop around 8 bags. They directed us to use the rear entrance on Carver Rd. I would definitely ring as they don’t seem to have much space at the back. Our experience was great, they were very polite and thankful.
