So we're moving our 5 year old boy up to the attic room. This will be his room for the duration now so I'm aware that I want to get the taste as much as possible right so i don't have to go changing things in the future.

He's 5, loves Star Wars, pirates, knights, rugby, tennis and is definitely a boys boy.

Please please come and show me what your boys have got in their rooms - both curtains and anything else that are nice as I feel like i've been surfing for days and haven't got anywhere.

Also please don't tell me to ask him as I have and he would have Star Wars, walls, curtains, carpet etc etc etc!!!!

Thanks

I've got 2 boys age 5 & 8 and they have the spotty roller blind from John Lewis which I am sorry to say they don't stock from the look of their website.

I found this link off Google images - scroll down the page to the pic with the spotty blind.

Not sure if I deliberately avoided a theme or why I chose this one. Anyway, they have never complained and we've had it a good few years now. They certainly would not like anything girly.

White walls, red and blue vaguely nautical striped blinds, and a variety of duvet covers, all red, white and/or blue, so plenty of flexibility. Room decorated when he was 4, now 9, can't see it changing ever (not into decorating at all and son s very happy). He ad a pirate duvet cover when small, now Union Jack. Neutral with changing cushions and bed dings as tastes change must be way to go.

On www.notonthehighstreet they have wall stickers which from my understanding you can remove. I thought about a neutral decor then add some elephant and other zoo type stickers which could then be removed as ds gets older.

It sounds awful but their website has lots and lots of ideas and unique items for children.

The range of fabric wall stickers from Quick Brown Fox Of Dulwich are really nice, they have pirate ones and dinosaur ones. They are moveable / reusable too, we have the woodland ones. The bedding is lovely too.

Otherwise I think vaguely nautical, red and blue stripes etc is a good theme, cos it would last ages as others have said, have fun choosing!

The spotty roman blinds fabric is still available actually, I made something similar for hello sailors girls room, you can just have the themed fabric on the accessories such as cushion covers etc..feel free to contact me on that. Also I made my 6 year old blinds out of fabric with a world map on it... He loves it and every night I ask him questions on where countries are in relation to others and which countries are close to others... he loves it, and so do we.

    • We had lunch here today. It was really good. I had a salad bowl with falafels. You don't have to have chilli and garlic - they ask you when you order. It was a really generous portion, all very fresh, and the excellent salad  came with three very  large and tasty falafels, two stuffed vine leaves, hummus and tahini. Excellent value. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but around £6 to £7. My partner had a wrap, which he said was good too, and a freshly squeezed juice. We ate in, but I took half of mine home to eat later. There were people in front of us, but we didn't have to wait long. They have a loyalty card - free drink the third time you go, free side the sixth time and a free wrap or bowl the tenth time. Highly recommended!
    • No need to wait until next year. They always run a post event feedback meeting. And yes, they were using some new contractors this year because the previous ones were not good enough by their own admission.
    • Sorry for dragging this back on topic, but earlier I had a discussion with Luca the site manager who was also singing the praises of the 'new' waste management team. He invited me on to the ground to the east of the 'parkrun start' path to check out how well they'd done. Within 20 paces I'd picked up (and given to him) 2 cellophane filter tip wrappers, 3 fag butts, a 2" screw, assorted scraps of plastic wrappers....! He awkwardly then said they were still onsite, and sent 1 guy out to litter pick. He also made the statement that it's "an impossible task". I will be over there tomorrow to find, collect and document all the remaining litter, to assist with next year's consultation. I think it's important to pass on that type of information?
    • Hi My friend who’s a local tree surgeon unfortunately had his small Stihl petrol chainsaw stolen last week. As a tree surgeon, this is pretty gutting.    I wondered whether anyone on here might have a spare secondhand one that they don’t use anymore. Or perhaps one that’s been left in a shed or garage gathering dust that isn’t needed. Joe would be delighted and very grateful if we could magic him a replacement soon! 🤩 Thanks so much!  Claire (07946) 728879
