I just wondered if anyone has come across a situation where their toddler has grown more than the standard 20 milk / baby teeth?

Our 2.5 year old has all 20 baby teeth, however he has shown all the signs of teething over the past 2 or 3 weeks (fingers in mouth, refusing to eat, early waking, rosy red cheeks, etc) and on closer inspection seems to have what look like teeth sat under his gums at the back on both sides of his lower jaw (white patches just below the surface of the gums).

We took him to see the dentist to check, but in and between him not wanting to open his mouth and her not really seizing the opportunity when I did lay him on my lap and got him to open his mouth she didn't get a good look. She dismissed it saying that toddlers never grow extra teeth. A very quick search on the internet has shown this not to be true, although admittedly very rare.

I just wondered if anyone has come across the same situation, or if there is another possible explanation for this, before we look into it further?

Thanks

Thank you for the messages and PMs. I was too late home from work to take another proper look last night but will do. There is plenty of room for some teeth, if that's what it is, but I would just rather know whether he is teething or not so we can be mindful of it. I had milk teeth taken out, but I don't know if that was because they were extra ones or there just wasn't room for them in my mouth - I'll check!

    • No, it's not completely analogous. But no one in their right minds doubts that he's a villain who incited the storming of the capital, it goes without saying. But I see what you mean about re-examining the events, of course. As I said, a less-than-one-second flash frame would have meant we'd never even be having this discussion.  He's also a litigious tyrant who's suing a US Network, which has directly led to a loss of income for me and many colleagues. I hate the guy.  That's why broadcasters can't give him any ammunition and must keep their noses clean.  Yes, I'm all up for less aggy, I don't like it one bit.
    • My wife lost a gold hoop earring with faux diamonds somewhere between Peckham Rye and Herne Hill on Tues 11 Nov. It's about an inch diameter with an interesting 'twist' pattern. She'd be extremely grateful to get it back on the off chance that anyone has found it!
    • Sorry if this is bullying, or name calling or whatever  but anyone quoting Rupert Lowe is just never ever going to have a valid point  several people misreported  that line not just the bbc - seems to have been a mishearing and I’ve seen plenty of corrections   So I don’t think it was a lie (it remains a curious distinction tho why say foreigners and nationals at all   If you want to bring back the death penalty why mention this distinction?)   Here’s a question. If Lowe or his party took power and introduced the death penalty, do you think proportionally more “nationals” or”foreign born” would receive  the death penalty? Because I think I know the answer and so do you  This bastion of truth.  Rupert Lowe https://www.bbc.co.uk/search?d=NEWS_PS I wouldnt put him on any pedestal above the bbc
