Any of you ed forumites go? Was a great night of music from a 'master' the Swarb. One guy on a violin holding the crowd . Funny stories from way back in a perfect atmosphere. The room up there totally suited the music, i thought. Ive been to a few things up there before but that was the best arts/bar combo, for me. My mate got 'shushhh'd'. Congrats on that to the organisers.

When i was 16, I took a trip up from kent to London to see John Martyn at the original marquee club. Went on my own. The crowd sat on the floor (pre punk so that gross old carpet wasnt so soaked in beer) and John Martyn told stories and played his guitar alone. was spellbinding. Last night reminded me of that. Classic.

Theakstons old peculiar hits the spot eh? Wobbly walk home.

I was there with family. First saw Swarb performing with Fairport in 1969 in a muddy field in Hertfordshire. Followed the band for maybe ten years - then sidetracked into earning a living.

Wanted to induct wife and two sons into the pleasure of Swarbrick's playing. It took with eldest son, a violinist but not the rest.

Agree the venue was great and the evening - reminded me of so many memorable folk club evenings in the 70's, except for lack of smoke, even down to the variable quality of the floor artists and the slightly over the top drunk in strange hat!

Full marks to the organisers.

Aw shucks thanks Woodie and Marmora Man, our two months' hard work and raised stress levels has been all worth while :)

We deliberately had a mix of floorsingers, everyone's taste is different, and we intend to continue that policy so I guess there will always be some you like, some you like less.

Hope you'll be coming to our future events :)-D

And Woodie, we'd love to get John Martyn down to the edt, we'll investigate :)

    • Its that time of year again, past Christmas day and late delayed cards are turning up. How late are your cards arriving ?  Last year I had one delivered 4 weeks late. Can that be beaten this year ?
    • Sadly, a lot of businesses didn't invite reviews on the EDF at that time due to a number of "negative nellies" that would take delight in posting unfavourable comments, often despite never being to the business in question.  No matter how good the place was, some posters would find fault that wasn't there "don't lile the colour of the bidet set in the private bathroom, avocado 😅" Can hardly blame businesses at the time for not wanting reviews on here, thankfully that has mostly changed now.
    • Was that the Hare Krishna place? I can't remember exactly where it was (or maybe still is) but it was somewhere around Oxford Street.
    • The "for sale" section on this forum lets people offer things for free or cheaply. And the "wanted" section let's people ask for things they want or need, for free or cheaply. There are also existing schemes like Freecycle, and also local  food banks. And there is (or was) a local scheme where you can bring things to be repaired free. I think it is/was based in Nunhead. Isn't that simpler than having a barter system? You might have something to give away, but the person who wants it might not have anything you want. Or have I misunderstood how it works? I can see that offering services free might not fit into existing schemes, but depending on what they were, what would happen if things went horribly wrong eg someone wrecked your house? Sorry if the above sounds very negative.
