Rides for 2nd October

For Sat 2nd Oct we have two Southwark Healthy Rides planned. When you register on Eventbrite, link details below, please give a phone number as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.

Canada Water to Blackheath Pre-Marathon ride

Oct 3rd is the date for this year?s delayed London Marathon. The ride will go past the start areas that transform part of Blackheath. Ride Leader Simon is a veteran of many London Marathons and will talk a bit about this amazing event during the ride. Start/finish Deal Porter Square opposite Canada Water Station and next to Canada Water Library. Start 10am for a 2 hour ride. OR can meet at Greenwich Park (Nevada St/King William Walk Gate) at 10.30. Please indicate on the registration form if doing this. Route: CW, Thames Path, Greenwich Park, up to the Observatory, across to Blackheath, then return via Greenwich Park, then section of Cycleway 10 (Q1) through Deptford, Folkestone Gardens and past the Millwall ground before heading back to Canada Water.

Dulwich, Crystal Palace, Ladywell Fields Circuit.

Start/Finish Dulwich Park, Dulwich Clock Caf?, SE21 7BQ. 10am start, 12.30 finish. Jean and John leading. Route up College Rd to get the climbing over with (will allow time to walk the steep bits). Around the top of Crystal Palace Park and across to Sydenham and on to Bell Green (Sainsburys Savacentre) by a backstreet route. Pick up Waterlink Way off-road path to Ladywell Fields. If time, break there for coffee, then back via Peckham Rye Park to Dulwich Park. Strava trace of probable route: https://strava.app.link/VaIxJp50ajb

These rides are arranged and led by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here: [southwarkcyclists.org.uk] and the LCC website is here: [www.lcc.org.uk]. Like everything we do the rides are free and open to everyone. For more info text Bruce on 07729 279 945 or DM me. I won't know but I should be able to find out.

    • Hello:  Can anyone recommend a football club where girls age 7 years old can play?   Ideally in SE21 / SE22.  Thanks,
    • That's not what I said and you know it.
    • I disagree, it was pretty filthy back then, plus the issues that Southwark have had were the ones left by EA.
    • I've been cycling in London for decades. The two times a vehicle knocked me off my bicycle, were in conditions that were well lit (one was daylight) and the night time one was just me and the vehicle on the road. Both the driver's fault. The point it that most drivers are perfectly capable of seeing a bicycle in most conditions, just as they are capable of seeing a child or dog run out in front of them. Who knows why a small percentage are incapable of doing that, but gaslighting the victim is not the answer. Are there wreckless cyclists? Sure. Just as there are reckless drivers and pedestrians. But it's worth remembering that millions of roads users navigate their journeys perfectly safely every day. As a driver, you are taught to check your mirrors regularly (not just when considering an manoevre), and the first rule of the Highway Code, is to always avoid an accident if you can. My attitude when using the roads it to always expect someone to do something stupid/ wreckless. I look for it. That is the best way of avoiding any accident, no matter what form of transport you use.
