Memsaab

Not sure if under new(ish) management? or a perhaps a new chef? - but Memsaab has properly upped its game. Last 4 or 5 orders from there have been really very, very good. Everything just seems fresher, with more distinctive flavours. Little garnishes have started to appear - e.g. the sprinkle of fresh coriander on tonight's Bombay aloo and the small round of (I think, and perhaps incongruously) preserved lemon with the chana masala. Someone is definitely giving it a bit of extra love in that kitchen. Delicious!

Memsaab was my Favorite but had some disappointing sit in meals. 4 or 5.

I did give them a chance.

Rice was over cooked and too strong cloves..

I have stayed away for 5 - 6 weeks. used to go twice a week + Home Deliveries.

I had thought that they had a different Chef as Poppadoms and Naans were also not so good.

I'm a little embarrassed to go back.

I've complained to Just Eat in the past and never got a refund 🙄

Try Mirash, Foxy.

I thought Memsaab had gone downhill, but maybe if they have got a new chef I might try them again, but in my recent experience Mirash is much better.

I though about Mirash BUT they have a notice in the window saying that due to Covid Restrictions

they Have to close by 10.00 PM for Eat-in but still take delivery orders until 11.00 pm,

Not sure if you can go in for a Take Away.

Do not understand why they have to close by 10.00 pm.

Sounds a bit like an excuse.

if the prices are more than the shop then just eat WILL refund the different as i have done this before ON JUST EAT, it goes in your account so when you make another order go to your account and use your refund

  • 2 weeks later...

Went back to Memsaab last night.

I had 2 Popadoms with Pickles.. Pillau Rice.. King Prawn Madras.. Puri Bread..

All was delightful.

I had complained about their Rice on 3 - 4 previous occassions..

The Rice has much improved.. (Nice individual grains)

The King Prawn was delicious and Big portion. (Really exceptional)

Memsaab has returnd to it's former excellent standard.

I would strongly advise anyone who has had a bad experience in the past few months to give it another go.

worth noting that if you order via justeat/deliveroo etc, regardless of how good the deal is to you, the restaurant takes a 20-30% hit. Obviously everyone expects places to use these services so they feel they have to participate - but if they take orders directly, then all the money goes to them

    • In 2016 London City Airport began using concentrated flight paths. When there's a predominantly westerly wind, incoming aircraft approach from East London (north of the River. When there's a predominantly Easterly wind, incoming aircraft approach the airport from the West: circling through Forest Hill, Dulwich, Vauxhall, Tower Hamlets, Docklands. This latter flight path affects many of us in South East London. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/london-city-airport-concentrated-flight-paths The planes going into City are often below 2,000 ft, so very noisy. Sometimes we have incoming Heathrow at the same time, flying higher. The early flights that I hear e.g. 04:30 are incoming to Heathrow. They are scheduled to land at 05:30 but are 'early'. Apparently the government allows a percentage of flights to arrive early and late (but these are now established as regular occurrences, informally part of the schedule). IMHO Londoners are getting very poor political representation on this issue. Incredible that if you want to complain about aircraft noise, you're supposed to contact the airport concerned! Preposterous and designed solely in favour of aviation expansion.
    • Yet another recommendation for Jafar. Such a nice guy, really reliable and fair. He fixed a problem with our boiler and then incredibly kindly made two more visits to replace a different part at no extra cost.
    • I didn't have any problems with plane noise until city airport started flying planes to and from about 5-8 minutes apart from 5.30 am or  6 am,  and even with ear plugs and double glazing I am woken at about 6 well before I usually would wake  up. I have lived here since 1986 and it is relatively recently that the planes have been flying far too low over East dulwich. I very much doubt that they are headinbg to Heathrow or from Heathrow. As the crow flies we are much , MUCH closer to City Airport than Heathrow or Gatwick. I even saw one flying so low you could see all the windows, when I was in Peckham Rye Park.
