Science tutoring offered - KS1 to A-Level

orm2018

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've been a professional tutor for 3 years, having graduated from Oxford in 2018 with a Master's in Biochemistry. I tutor biology and chemistry up to A-Level, as well as some interview/personal statement help for biological degrees, and physics up to GCSE, as well as maths as required!

I think teaching science requires a lot of questions to be asked, on the side of both the tutee and the tutor, so I'm always asking questions to work out exactly what my students know about the topic we're working on so we can iron out any misunderstandings and build a proper comprehension of the subject together. Being taught to just parrot the correct answers is an incredibly unsatisfying, inefficient and ultimately pointless way of learning, so I avoid that as much as possible and encourage my students to think about the theory behind what they're expected to learn, so that they can work out the answers in exams rather than relying on answers they crammed in a panic.

I'm an easy-going person - I don't think people learn well in stressful situations, and so I strive to create an environment that recognises there can be levity in learning. As a tutor, I?m also very patient, which means I'm willing to spend as long as needed on a single idea to ensure the student understands. I'm flexible with my knowledge, so I?m always comfortable spending time working on something from different angles if it helps the student.

I'm very happy stretching students who'd like more of a challenge as well as helping students bring their grades up to pass the exams!

I charge ?45p/h, but my first lesson is free if you don't book a second one! In terms of price, I know it's a high hourly rate but you're unlikely to find someone with my level of expertise and experience tutoring for less than this!

Best wishes,

Olley

    • Hello East Dulwich families 👋 I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I’m a professional family & wedding photographer with 14+ years of experience, and I split my time between the US and London throughout the year. I’ll be based in London for the coming weeks and would love to photograph more local families here in East Dulwich. My approach is very relaxed and natural — no stiff posing, no pressure — just real connection, movement, and the beautiful everyday moments that tell your family’s story. I work especially well with kids and parents who feel “awkward” in front of the camera (which honestly is most of us!). Sessions can take place at home, in the park, on your favourite street, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. The goal is to create images that feel like your life — not a photoshoot. If anyone has been thinking about documenting this season with their children, I’d love to connect, answer questions, or simply share examples of my work. No pressure at all — just happy to be here and meet some neighbours. You can see my work here: https://bluesparkphotography.com/family/ (use the contact page on the site to send me a message if you're interested!).
    • I don't! But I've also taken to calling myself David, as it seems to shorten the odds of achieving something in life. It's not King Dave, Dave Lloyd George, Dave Hockney, Dave Bowie or Dave Hasselhoff is it? And I'm not sure Michelangelo would have had such success if he'd called his sculpture 'Dave'.
    • I think there is still a shoes/clothes recycling bank outside of North Dulwich station.
    • I'm not so sure the collection team are that bothered anymore.  Two houses either side of me are rented and the tenants just chuck their rubbish - mostly bagged - in the blue or green bins depending on which has space in, not based on what it is.  The blue bins are always emptied.
