NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, links below.

For Sat 6th Nov we have a 2 hour ride and a 3.5 hour ride planned, see below. When you register on Eventbrite, link details below, please give a phone number as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.

Canada Water to St James Park

Our sightseeing ride, led by Tour Guide Simon! Start time 10am. Start/finish in Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water station, SE16 7AR. Easy, 10 mile, 2 hour, flat ride from Canada Water. Route goes across London Bridge and passes Parliament Square, St James Park, Buckingham Palace and starts back across Westminster Bridge. Outward using much of Cycleway 3 along the Embankment. Return keeping to the south side of the river. Along Lower Marsh, The Cut, then mostly C14 - Union Street, Newcomen St, Weston St, Leathermarket St, Tanner St, Tooley St, Dockhead, ending with Thames path route back to CW. Although we are on some busy roads, mostly have a cycle lane or bus lane.

Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Trinity Buoy Wharf, Barrier Park Loop

Fascinating ride through river and dock side East London with Amanda leading. About 15 miles, 3.5 hours, including coffee break. Meet at Greenwich Station (SE10 8JQ), 9.30 to get DLR train to Mudchute (bring face mask and travel pass). OR meet at tunnel exit at Island Gardens (E14 3PS) at 9.45 (for people happy to carry bikes down/up steps at Greenwich Foot Tunnel, or who can ride directly to Island Gardens). Aim is to finish at Cutty Sark at approx. 1pm. Trinity Buoy Wharf (https://www.trinitybuoywharf.com/) has the Faraday Shed, a tree on a taxi on a Caf?, a lighthouse and more. If you have never visited, this is your chance. Barrier Park on the north bank gives terrific views of, you guessed it, the Thames Flood Barrier. Return route probably via Woolwich Ferry and the Thames Path. Last ridden June 12th this year, see photos on June 15 post on Healthy Riders Facebook group. NOTE earlier than usual start time of 9.30.

We will keep everyone as safe as possible by observing all the Covid Regulations. Even with the relaxation of the rules it is still a good idea to routinely keep a 2m social distance, never less than 1m. Particularly important to maintain social distancing from other users on shared paths. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users can maintain 1-2 m and feel safe. Bring a face mask as it is required to get refreshments at a caf? stop and on the DLR and the Airline. Obviously please do not turn up to this event if you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19.

This ride is organised by Southwark Cyclists and is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/. Southwark Cyclists are part of the London Cycling Campaign. This ride is organised by volunteers. If you have any feedback, good or bad, please get in touch with [email protected]. 'The Metropolitan Police have appealed for help to find a man after a woman was seriously injured in an unprovoked attack in south London. The woman, in her 20s, was assaulted on Lordship Lane in East Dulwich at around 4.45pm on Monday August 25. She was treated by paramedics for injuries to her face and her jaw was broken in the attack. The victim was then taken to hospital and she continues to be supported by specialist officers. Officers are now searching for the suspect and are urging members of the public to come forward if they have information. He is described as a black man in his 30s or 40s with balding hair. He was wearing dark clothing during the attack. He is said to have approached the woman while she was by herself before swearing at her and then hitting her in the face. Detective constable Charlotte Kerr, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are working hard to find the person we believe is responsible for this senseless and unprovoked attack. “While we continue our enquiries, we hope our increased neighbourhood police presence will offer some reassurance to women and girls throughout the local area. “If you saw anything on Monday, 25 August – particularly between the junction of Lordship Lane and Chesterfield Grove at around 16:45hrs - do not hesitate to get in touch with us. “No matter how small you think your information is, it may be the key that unlocks our investigation.” Any witnesses or anyone who can help identify the suspect is asked to please contact the Met via 101, quoting 5018/25AUG or 01/7897951/25. Those who wish to share information anonymously can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'
    • I think, with schools, you really have to find the one that suits your child, rather than moving to a school catchment and then hoping it works. Mine both went to a high ranking and covetable school and had very different experiences - one loved it and the other was bullied and traumatised, and hated it. WE actually moved away because she couldn't walk around the area (yes - Dulwich area, so one of the local schools).
    • We live a little further down, on Pymers Mead. Traffic is terrible (always has been, but worse since the introduction of the Southwark LTNs). It's mainly the school drop -- traffic is noticeably lighter once the private schools break up  Have a few friends who live on that side of CR backing on to the train line. None has had any major complaints and the gardens on that stretch are fairly long, so you're not right on the line. Some have kids who go to Charter North -- its catchment defintely extends to Croxted Road. Other state secondaries nearby are Elmgreen and, of course, Kingsdale, although that doesn't have a catchment -- pure lottery
