If you shop in Peckham town centre or use the facilities there you may be interested in the plans to redevelop a major site. It currently houses the Aylesham Centre, adjacent Rye Lane shops, Morrison?s supermarket and their car park, the bus station on Peckham High Street and a petrol station. Last year the site was sold by Blackrock a global hedge fund to Berkeley Group a UK developer.

They will soon be starting their consultation exercise intending to apply, by the end of 2022, for planning permission. Aylesham Community Action (ACA) a community group of local people, working with Peckham Vision, have organised an introductory workshop this coming Saturday 22nd January 11am-12.45pm for local people to learn about the site and the issues that need to be considered in thinking about the redevelopment.

This weekend is the final weekend to add comments to to the survey hosted by the developers

https://www.theayleshamcentre.community/surveys

The plan, as per the current guidance from the Mayor, adds 35% affordable housing to the site and this is a fair mix for locals.

Whilst it's a tall development it does add much needed housing stock to the area and rejuvenates a tired shopping centre and supermarket along with utilising underused space.

I am amused that the Aylesham Community Action group tries to paint Peckham as a historic market town when in fact its currently in need of attention and covered in grafitti. We need homes which will help rejuvenate the town centre and not an eyesore town centre that discourages inwards investment.

The real amusement is that the word "gentrification" is also bring used in this context, back in the 60s before the council built the concrete monstrosity housing blocks around Peckham, the town centre was called the golden mile and was a go to shopping destination so this gentrification is really reversing the decline that happened from the 70s onwards.

If you haven't added your views, positive or negative then it's your last chance as part of this consultation.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
