Feb 19th Ride details

Canada Water-South Bank - Deptford - Canada Water Loop.

10am to 12.30 noon. Bruce leading. Easy ride that uses the relatively new Cycleways across north Southwark. Start/finish in Deal Porter Square, SE16 7AR, next to Canada Water Library and opposite the station. Begin by picking up Cycleway 14 on the Albion Channel close to Canada Water. Follow C14 past the Brunel Museum and the Salter Statues to Jamaica Rd. Small section of C4 and a cycle crossing to Tanner St. Continue on C14 past Guys Hospital and through Flat Iron Square to Blackfriars Rd. Leave C14 here and head north on C6 to Upper Ground and follow this to the South Bank. Possible coffee break here and time for a quick look at the Thames. Continue short distance along Upper Ground and join C10 (Quietway 1) at Cornwall Rd. Route heads back on C10 roughly parallel to C14 past the Old Vic, through Trinity Square, past Crol Caf? on Dunton Rd, over the Connect 2 Sustrans Bridge, past Millwall Stadium, through Folkstone Gardens, eventually to Deptford High St. Probably turn about there and head for the river and pick up National Route 4, the Thameside route, back to Canada Water. This becomes C14 at South Dock and continues through Russia Woodland to the Albion Channel where we first joined it. If you want to become more familiar with the best E-W routes in the north of the borough, this is the ride for you. Route at https://bit.ly/30lzAza.

Peckham to Yurts Caf?, Limehouse

Start 10am Peckham Square, next to Peckham library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY. Outward route going over Tower Bridge, through St Katherines Dock to Wapping, then turning onto CS3 for a tiny bit to get to the Yurts Cafe. Coffee break there then return through Limehouse Basin, Ropemakers Park, on to the Thames Path and cut across to Mudchute DLR (bring Travel Pass or equivalent). Alight Greenwich station and go along Greenwich High Rd the short distance to Cycle way 10 (ex Q1), then follow this several miles to Abercorn Way, then left to Glengall Road and the Canal path to Peckham Square. Plan to be back by 1pm. Amanda leading.

    • Anyone can deliver for Evri - my daughter having just passed her driving test tried Evri to make some money - they basically give you a route and as many parcels as they think you can cope with - you make money for each one you deliver, so you can imagine - speed is the priority. Why would they wait for you to answer the door when they can just throw it and take a photo? If you have a choice, choose a different courier service or shop elsewhere where they do.
    • Boil - it’s the customer’s fault, not the delivery person’s.
    • A bit of a long shot but I'm on the lookout for a portable pop-up counter or podium.   The kind you often see on a high street, used by charities or utility companies to advertise their wares.   I've included a photo to give you the idea. I'm a peckham-based artist and am looking for one for a free (and non-profit) community art project.  It can be in any workable condition and can already have signage on it as we will remove and redecorate ourselves.    Thanks in advance, Linzie
    • No I absolutely did not - that much is clear. Have you read the latest stories about Unite, Len and the hotel in Birmingham? The UK electorate were smart enough to reject a far-left party in 2019, let's hope they are smart enough to reject a far-right party at the next election too. If not we are all doomed.
