Fergus Garrett: succession planting for a long garden season

The Dulwich Society?s Spring garden talk this year will be by Fergus Garrett, head gardener at Great Dixter and one of the UK?s most influential gardeners. In his illustrated talk, Fergus will use the magnificent Long Border at Great Dixter as an example of how to plan a long season border using structural plants, underplanting and interplanting with bulbs, use of self-sowers, pockets of bedding, masking with climbers and good maintenance. Fergus will explain how to choose the right plants that offer contrasting shapes, textures and foliage from different seasons to produce multi-layered long season communities.

The talk is at Bell House, 27 College Rd, Dulwich. Tickets ?7, surplus towards garden activities at Bell House.

    • Most Councillors work full time and are councillors in their spare time. Some become full time councillors with Cabinet positions. Done well these are really full time roles. Imagine trying to sort out Southwark Council Housing where only half of repairs calls are completed. Utter chaos.  The current administration introduced a lot of deputy roles with extra allowances. My lot have long argued these need to be significantly parred back.  Interestingly James McAsh has been claiming a full time Cabinet position Special Responsibility Allowance which means he must be working less than 11hrs pw or not at all in a normal job such as being a teacher.
    • It's not the same size and there are other complications with it, so we'll get an expert in. But thanks! Interesting, thank you. Didn't know there was such a thing as gas-powered fridges! But I think more than one family lived in this house when it was first built, so the upper bedroom could well have been a second kitchen back then.
    • We passed and saw the airbags had come out.  I hope no-one was injured.  Also only saw police,  not ambulances.
    • Looking for a wooden one ideally with any accessories, lmk if you have one for sale, thanks!
