Megan?s

To Let sign has gone onto the boarded up front and builders were in there on Monday stripping out the work that has been done. I saw inside and it looked to me like it wasn?t far off finished. The menu on the website looks great so I was looking forward to it opening. But guessing they?ve decided not to open in ED. Anyone know more? Still says ?opening soon? on the website.

Could the "To Let" sign either refer to a flat upstairs or else have been put in the wrong place?

It seems highly unlikely to me they would decide not to open at this very late stage.

Why would they?

I just posted on the 'new shops' thread in general topics.

Having been to the one in Dulwich Village twice -once to try it out when they first opened and more recently because we were in that neck of the woods-I really wouldn't get excited about going there.

It looks good but service was haphazard, food was lukewarm and didn't live up to how it sounded on the menu and worst of all they play awful 80's music (both times same music must be on a loop-no wonder the waitresses seemed slow they've probably lost the will, listening to Aha,tears for fears, that warbling song 'True' by spandau ballet etc etc on endless rotation)

Do yourself and a small independent a favour and spend your money elsewhere.

I love 80s music! Sounds fab! (New wave: how can you have a name like NewWave and hate 80s music 🤷🏼‍♂️)

Some one should tell them that absolutely no-one I know calls Lordship Lane "The Lordship" though.

People will think it's situated on top of a pub 🤣

[Their sign says "Megan's on the Lordship"]

Very confusing, and sounds a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

Didn't they do any research before naming it? Wonder what The Lordship thinks about it, especially as they provide food as well.

What will happen if The Lordship is googled? And it's only just up the road, on the same side!

Maybe, looking at their website, Lordship refers to Lordship lane as that seems to be how they name their other businesses after the place or road they are on.

IMHO rather then relying on a bad experience at another branch, give them a chance, see if the management team at this one has it right rather then doing the typical EDF trick of putting a business down before you've tried it.

Lol I think I was mixing up New Wave and New Romantic music... Though I believe both did start in the 80s/post punk.

80s pop was indeed pretty trashy, But then I like a bit of trash now and again. I'll be giving Megan's a chance

If I ran The Lordship pub, I?d be getting the name of my pub taken off Megans?s signage !

Megans on 'the lane' sounds better anyway-kind of villagey and local surely more the image they wish to promote.

Still bewilders me why they think they need a huge branch in Dulwich Village AND one on Lordship Lane.

I just cannot see them both surviving especially with a the country going recession.

Back to food though...I'd rather eat at The Lordship than Megans 'on the lordship'

    • The current wave of xenophobia is due to powerful/influential people stirring up hatred.  It;'s what happened in the past, think 1930s Germany.  It seems to be even easier now as so many get their information from social media, whether it is right or wrong.  The media seeking so called balance will bring some nutter on, they don't then bring a nutter on to counteract that. They now seem to turn to Reform at the first opportunity. So your life is 'shite', let;s blame someone else.  Whilst sounding a bit like a Tory, taking some ownership/personal responsibility would be a start.  There are some situations where that may be more challenging, in deindustrialised 'left behind' wasteland we can't all get on our bikes and find work.  But I loathe how it is now popular to blame those of us from relatively modest backgrounds, like me, who did see education and knowledge as a way to self improve. Now we are seen by some as smug liberals......
    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
