I think Amex foots the bill. It is to get more people using it and more shops and businesses to accept it, because Amex users tend to spend more on their credit card than users of Visa, etc. or debit cards. (It used to be more expensive for shops and firms to accommodate Amex but that is less the case now, I am told but I don't know the full facts.)

    • They are. We are back to the same construction racket 8am-8pm every day for the whole of this week. The wall is one of the last things to come down, probably on Saturday.     • @Rockets be a sweety and stop using the large font, it's annoying and I expect most can comprehend. Still not sure how this festival affects you.  Or is it a case that you just like taking on causes 
    • It is intimidating looking through the book sections now.  I sometimes wonder if they're stocking bookshops' remainders. OTOH, when I put  some books out in a cardboard box for taking, it was  encouraging to see that a fair proportion of those taken were aged hardbacks.
