Run Ready For Post natal ladies - Starts Wednesday 8th June 2022

Recommended Posts

Running is a simple, effective form of exercise that allows you to throw on your trainers and head out the door for some fresh air and headspace. As a Mum, this is often the easiest way to fit some exercise in. However, after child birth the body requires some preparation to get you ready for pounding the pavement. Women often experience leaks, heaviness in the pelvic floor when they attempt their first run. The joints may feel unstable leading to pain or injury.

We wanted to create a course that prepares your body for the impact of running to minimise the risk of injury and to keep you leak free. Over 5 weeks you will be given progressive exercises to build strength, learn how to activate the pelvic floor effectively and co-ordinate the breath, increasing impact gradually. You will have exercises to work on during the week so by the end of the course you will be ready for a couch to 5k programme.

Steps to become Run Ready:

if you are under 12 weeks post-birth we recommend that you attend our Physio + Restore course or Post-natal Fit course first

if you are 12 weeks or more post-birth and have already been doing some exercise, you?re ready to book

join the 5 week Run Ready course where you will follow a graded programme suited to your specific needs

you will receive exercises to work on during the week

join the Run Ready support group to link up with other women to train or run with

The cost for the 5 week run course is ?75

Want an MOT first?

We are teamed up with Women?s Health Physios Emily Nellist and Clare Pacey. Book in for a 1 hour comprehensive MOT to assess your pelvic floor, alignment, breathing patterns and response to impact. This assessment will then be shared with your run coach Noemie Ram so they have a clear picture of which training programme your body needs to enable you to become run ready. If you would like to arrange this, please email them directly.

    • Many many moons ago, I worked as a mystery shopper for a while (amongst a number of other part time jobs, including a mystery traveller on the buses 🤣) I was asked at very short notice to go and have a meal at that Harvester, because it was a bank holiday and they couldn't find anyone else to go. I thought, well, it would be a free meal, and they paid for a meal for two (on top of whatever tiny amounts they paid me for my reporting on it). I can't remember the exact details, but It was vile. To be fair, it wasn't as bad as a similar meal I once had at the Dog, and unlike that at least it was free, but it would take a lot of wild horses to drag me back to another Harvester. I don't suppose Spoons would be interested. They closed the one in Forest Hill, and at least that was an interesting building. And the Beer Dispensary nearby never did very well, though probably there were reasons for that (like a very small selection of beer). But yes, it would be nice to see a decent pub/restaurant there, although sadly I presume the skate park would then be turned into a car park, regardless of whether Southwark doesn't like cars.
    • Yes, he worked with Richard Thompson, as well. Sadly you've missed your chance to buy him a pint ....
    • Did you manage to get to vets to scan for chip?
