Old Photo of Friern Road

This is very interesting for me. I grew up in the 1960's development at the top of Friern Road. I think this pic must have been taken on that site which I understand was prefabs after some V2 damage. Photo caption reads:

First prize in Camberwell Council's competition for the smartest pre-fab garden in the borough has been awarded to Mr L.T.Jackson, of Friern Road, Dulwich. September 13th 1948.

Friern Road Prefabs.

My first job 1945.

The two story building seen in the distance was our temporary Carpenters shop, it was number 314 Friern Road.

The front door was to the left, our workshop in the large front room, up stairs was a passage between the front bedroom and the back bedroom leading to the Chauffer's flat above the garage, there was a trapdoor leading down to the garage below.

We patched up the repairable houses in Friern Road, Etherow Street, Barry Road, and the back of those in Upland Road.

Then we put up Prefabs that came in kit sections on Railway trailers pulled by the three wheel mechanical horse.

I think your picture might be one of these.
