malumbu
Clearly inspired by the nations outpourings next Wednesday, but what are my readers alternative experiences during national events.I'll give mine. Chuck and Di's wedding (1981). Picnic, swim in the river and a J with friends1985 Live aid. Punting on the river (funny, dunno why rivers seem to feature).1997 Di's funeral, weekend in Vienna, caught some of the coverage on CNN which was strange to say the least.200?Live eight/ Earth or whatever it was called. Complaining to anyone who couldn't get away how much I hated Bono/Pink Floyd.2011 Diamond Jubilee - heat exhaustion in MoroccoSome planned, some accidental. I am sure others have better stories. Just some light hearted banter. El Pibe
I think I was playing Ting Tang Tommy through Chuck & Di's wedding, but enjoyed staying up really lae that night for the street party.I watched Live Aid in snippets on and off throughout the day, but spent most of the day faffing around with friends, I seem to recall we may have bought a four pack of Harp and drank it in the woods.Di's funeral, woke with a vicious hangover and my mate and I decided to go to the local pub at 10 in the morning to see if we could spend the day avoiding it all. There was a group of about 20 like minded souls who managed to persuade landlady that it was an exceptional day and she opened up.I had four pints of guinness and kahlua for breakfast and I have to say the rest of the day became somewhat hazy.Live 8?I have to say I don't really recall anything specific about diamond jubilee, suffice to say I wasn't at anything though. Jeremy
Di's funeral - in a lengthy rehearsal session with my (then) band, trying to learn how to play "Crash". It seemed clever at the time.Diamond Jubilee - on holiday in France (surprising amount of TV/media coverage over there, though)Olympic Opening Ceremony - on holiday in Barcelona Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31086-not-joining-in-national-eventscelebrations-what-are-your-stories/#findComment-633678 Share on other sites
