Just spent 30 mins in W/End at 10.30 pm trying to get a black cab home to Dulwich. Dozens passed me with lights off and empty. With diesel at £10 per gallon how can they swan around looking randomly for who knows what? Over the years I have become more and more disillusioned with the myth of the cheeky chappie cabbie with his “ just done the knowledge guv” stuff and how awful life is . Finally took the train home and had an Uber in 5 mins.

Could some cabbie please elucidate??

Welcome to post COVID world. Cabbies can't be bothered to exert energy to make that money. Buses shite/survive is as no bus lanes exist as the woke new ldn brigade who don't have families to take to school (yes you woke turds... when/if you have children they won't necessarily be allowed into the same state school) have got the bus lanes closed, and intro/supported ULEZ/under utilitised cycle lanes, and all other anti traffic measures (LTN money making schemes... forget the poor on the periphery sorts).. It's what these people with no responsibility do aside from being in transport policy and F'ing up normal south London peoples' lives. #welldoneyou

Has anyone noticed how much harder it is to get an uber back to ED from the West End.

They constantly accept your ride then cancel when a better trip comes up for them, the price rises randomly and often when one accepts, due to road restrictions, they can take 10 to 15 minutes to find you.

I've actually started to use black cabs in central London again because their price is fixed (not demand based) and often they are right there when you need one.

Horses for courses and it still feels stately arriving home in one (even if you're not in a good state yourself 😅)

    • It took the Tories 14 years to dig that 20bn blackhole. It's taken Labour 14 months to double it.  You cant get rid of Reeves though because the next person will actually be totally incompetent. There are no MPs in Labour capable of performing better than the current shower.
    • Thanks P. That sounds like a bargain compared to other horror stories I've heard!
    • DD, "Rejoice rejoice. It's a pity he and his fellow clowns were completely annihilated at the ballot box. I mean they were doing so well after all 🙃🙃" At least the economy and unemployment weren't in the mess they are now. What is it, give the public sector a whopping pay increase with no strings attached, double the black hole and then blame it on the last Govt. Give me strength. Rachel from accounts shouldn't be anywhere near the economy. The final straw was increasing employer NI contributions and look how that's worked out. Month on month both inflation and unemployment have risen. Won't be long before inflation and u/e are exceeding 5%, but guess what, They'll blame Sunak and go.  Lets have a snap election right NOW, then see how poorly Starmer, Reeves and Rainer do. They're already plotting to get rid of Starmer, and if you think its bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh and did I mention Starmer wanting to stop Freedom of Speech............................................Normal people can see right through what him and co are doing, great at spending other peoples money, him and co don't have = bankruptcy. We'll just repeat the economic collapse that happened in Greece and wasn't it in Italy as well?
    • One of the best of Shakespeare 's plays.  I did Othello for A level. Also seen a number of stage and film versions. Is there any specific aspects of the play that is difficult for your daughter to understand?
