With the sad news that our longest-serving team member and local comedy legend Lewis is leaving the nest after more than seven years, we're looking for a new superstar to join us at Hop Burns & Black's East Dulwich Road store on a part-time basis.

The role comprises 12-15 hours a week. Saturday and Sunday availability is essential, with the occasional weekday shift too, if desired.

Barista experience in specialty coffee is required - while we'll provide training in how we do things at HB&B, you should be familiar with professional coffee machines (ours is a 2 Group La Marzocco Linea Classic) and ready to hit the ground running, confident of making great coffee every time in an often high-paced environment.

Great customer service skills are also essential and we hope you'll have an interest in the products we sell, especially craft beer and wine. (We'll also teach you to love hot sauce if you don't already.)

Our ideal candidate will be local to our SE London outlets. You'll need to work well as part of a team and be capable of opening the store in the mornings and working sole charge on occasion, so reliability is key. A friendly personality and great sense of humour is a given!

The start date is ~23 September, although ideally you will have availability prior to this date for a (paid) training and induction session. We are a London Living Wage employer - our base rate for this position is £11.05, with a higher rate for sole charge supervisory shifts. We offer a generous staff discount and loads of opportunities to gain more knowledge in craft beer, natural wine and hot sauce through formal and informal tastings, festivals and other activities. You'll be joining a small, experienced, friendly team and a lot of fun is guaranteed.

If you fit the above criteria, we'd love to hear from you. Please email us - joinus(at)hopburnsblack.co.uk - with your CV and a cover letter by Sunday 11th September.

    • Highly recommend Leon for your electrical works.    We had an issue post installation of a new bathroom with the lights in the house and Leon was quick to visit and resolve the issue and bring us out of the dark!
    • Sorry but are fondues allowed under the Brexit treaty?  Perhaps this was discussed in the latest talks, didn't see any mention on the Beeb though. Thinking aloud are we all not being unpatriotic? I expect ex PM Truss would be nonplussed.
    • I loved those Horniman events. But the musicians turned up, people listened, they had a good time and then went home, it was a short-lived event. The difference with Gala is the level of disruption for weeks beforehand and after; it is not about the music but everything else. I hate seeing a huge section of park barricaded off, turned into a giant building site, with large vehicles and fencing everywhere, and security standing or sitting at all the entrances- it feels weird and it affects the vibe of the park.
    • Probably best to share with the police.
