New rules for Tradespeople & Services board

I have made some additions to the forum rules which concern how businesses may communicate to EDF forum members. These apply with immediate effect.

New Rules

If you are a business/service owner (or employee, relation, friend etc), you can only reply to topics in this section if::

  • You state your business name, or real name if you are a sole trader.
  • You must make it clear in your reply that you are the business owner or in some way connected to the business.
  • You may not spam the forum, replying to every topic with the same generic message (e.g. 'visit my website www.business.com').

You absolutely must not send mass unsolicited private messages (PMs) directly to our members. If another member reports you doing this, you will be immediately banned from the forum. Unsolicited private messages are a form of spam and we will not allow you to use the forum services to achieve this.

This rules are being added to prevent unvouched trades people who have no history or presence on the forum taking advantage of free advertising. EDF is supportive of local small businesses - many on here get a significant proportion of their trade from this forum. We cannot let unknown business take priority by 'spamming' their links.

If you are a new business looking to spread awareness, which does not yet have feedback from other members in EDF, then consider one of the following options:

  • Ask your customers to register and post feedback on EDF. This returns the favour by spreading awareness of EDF.
  • Consider purchasing display advertising.

Hi

On the old forum, I could see where people endorsed the tradesperson, which gave me huge confidence in using them in fact also took up references for some and I also have my number as a referee if they were good or posted a “beware” notice if they weren’t (ie did a runner).

Now - how do I do this please?

I’m all for going local for an electrician but not if it means burning the house down!

Thanks

Hi Lindsay.

You can still do this on the new forum. The only difference is that the endorsements/reviews have been moved to the Reviews section.

In that section, each trades person or company has their own topic. Inside a topic you can view the feedback other members have given to them over the years that EDF has existed.

Hope that answers your question.

    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
