Weekly Tuesday Night Irish Traditional Music session - The Herne Tavern

For the past few weeks, The Herne Tavern has played host to a regular Irish Traditional Music session with a regular crew and the occasional visiting guest musicians. For those who don't know it, The Herne is a welcoming pub with great acoustics for our unamplified tunes. If you're a fan of reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas and so on, please come along and enjoy a few beers. If you're a musician with a reasonable repertoire of trad Irish tunes and you'd like to sit in with the players, please get in touch with me via a direct message here and I'll be happy to make the introductions for you. Next session is on Tuesday 27th September, from 8:00 until last orders. See you there!

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to go.  Ill health issues.  However I gather it’s been shifted to two-weekly to alternate with another two-weekly session at Skehan’s.  Probably worthwhile giving the Herne a bell to check the current schedule…

    • The frequency of fireworks seems to be increasing. If revellers selected the low noise variety that would help, but the trend seems to be the louder the better. I do not think sensitivity to stimuli is the same as timidity. Unexpected, extremely loud bangs and unusual noises will startle most of us. Humans, unlike other animals, have the luxury of knowing what fireworks are and what the noise represents. Some animals do learn to cope but many do not. It could be their hearing is not as sensitive. We should not forget that many animals, including cats and dogs have hearing that is much more developed than ours.
