Need Someone to Check Bathroom Extractor Fan Ducting

Hi everyone,

I need someone to check the ducting on our bathroom extractor fan. Basically, we have recently had our bathroom refurbished and the tradesman wanted to let the ceiling extractor fan air into the loft. I told him it needs to go outside otherwise it will cause damp/condensation problems in the loft and begrudgingly he took it out to the eaves of the roof. As we had a lot of problems with him I want someone to check it has been done correctly so it doesn't cause issues in the future. I would welcome any recommendations

Can you see a vent or grille somewhere externally in the region of your bathroom ?

If not then he hasn’t done it properly. Even if there is evidence of an opening to vent the moist air you will still need to check that the trunking goes all the way from the fan to the open air.

Thank you for your reply. I watched him put the grille externally on the eaves of the house but it is the flexible ducting that I need checked by somebody. This is for two reasons. The first is that I never actually saw him connect it as it is in the loft and despite asking him to provide a photo he did not and secondly the distance from where the fan is in the bathroom is quite a way to the eaves of the house which meant he needed more than one piece of flexible ducting. So even if he did connect it to the grille I need somebody to make sure it is sealed and that the condensation is not escaping into the loft.

    • That was very kind of you to take the cat to the vet. Did the car not stop?
    • This is a bit outside our area, but I'm posting in case .... Last night (Sat.20 Dec), around 10.30, we saw a cat hit by a car in St Norbert Road, SE4.  We took him to the out of hours vet in Beckenham, where they confirmed that he had died.  They will see if he is microchipped, and contact the owner if so.  They were very kind.   He was a lovely cat, grey and white.  He must have died very quickly.  So sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😞 The vet is Medivet in Beckenham, tel: 0208 650 2003.
    • Watching my cats over the years with foxes, I've found that foxes have totally ignored them. One exception was when a young fox hadn't seen my cat and found himself eye to eye with my cat at a distance of 1 metre. There was a stand off but the fox blinked first and my cat chased him out of the garden. So proud of her. I believe when foxes have attacked cats, the cat has been vulnerable  - old, young, ill wounded.
    • It's also possible that someone is hand feeding foxes and encouraging them by this to approach others. I have heard of foxes attacking young children (if only anecdotally) but not adults. They do seem to attack cats.
