We have 2 rides for Oct 15th, one 3.5 hours, one 2.5 hours. Remember you should register on Eventbrite, details below. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling (How to cancel).

Ride 1. Canada Water to St James Palace < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/canada-water-to-st-james-park-ride-tickets-441886714057 >

Start time 10am. Start/finish in Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water station, SE16 7AR. You can also join the ride at London Bridge; be at the Southwark Gateway Needle, south east side of bridge, at 10.20. Easy, 10 mile, 2.5 hour, flat ride from Canada Water. Route goes across London Bridge and passes Parliament Square, St James Park, Buckingham Palace and starts back across Westminster Bridge. Outward using much of Cycleway 3 along the Embankment.

Return keeping to the south side of the river. Along Lower Marsh, The Cut, then mostly Cycleway14, ending with Thames path route back to CW. Although we are on some busy roads, mostly have a cycle lane or bus lane. Coffee stop at Bartons in Dockhead. Lots and lots to see. Everyone welcome. Simon leading.

Ride 2. Dulwich to the Frieze Outdoor Sculptures in Regents Park< https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cycle-ride-from-dulwich-to-the-frieze-outdoor-sculptures-in-regents-park-tickets-441912782027>

Start at 10.00 from Dulwich Park Cafe. Ride via Herne Hill and Loughborough Junction to Kennington and Oval up to Vauxhall Bridge. Along the river to Westminster Bridge and St James Park on to Hyde Park. From Hyde Park we will make our way to Regents Park to the English Garden to see the Sculptures on show for Frieze 2022. This is a really fun outdoor display held every October. You will find an audio/video guide here https://www.frieze.com/article/your-guide-frieze-sculpture-2022-regents-park or just take a look/see when we get there.

We'll allow a half hour to look around the 18 pieces and take a coffee break either nearby or en route home in Hyde Park. Returning across Hyde Park then Exhibition Road and South Kensington down to the river and across to Battersea from where we will ride through Clapham Common and Brockwell Park back to Dulwich Park. The ride will be about 20 miles and allowing extra time for the exhibition, we will aim to be back in Dulwich by 1.30. Jean and John leading.

These rides are part of the Healthy Riders group, organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/. Like everything else we do, our activities are all free. We co-operate with other London Cycling Campaign groups like Greenwich Cyclists. The LCC details are here: https://lcc.org.uk/.

    • Dunstans Road  comes under Dulwich Hill SNT- you can get their details on the Met Police website . I know that the Police are often patrolling Dawson Hights. Please contact them,
    • No one is arguing that people should cycle without lights or reflectors. Obviously they should. It is also a legal requirement. But the colour of someone’s clothing? Is it ok to wear navy? What about green? What shade? At what point should we have ‘no reason for sympathy’ if they’re in a collision? I don’t want people to feel like they need special clothes just to walk or cycle. If you have lights and reflectors and you’re on well lit city streets, there is no reason why drivers shouldn’t be able to see you, assuming of course, that they're driving with due care and attention. But yes, if there are lots of people without lights, that should be addressed. I suspect in part, it's the change over in seasons and the fact that people are getting caught out by how early it's getting dark now (obviously no excuse).
    • Found it but cannot contact owner as no email or message on it. e*****@icloud.com   please let me know if you’ve recently lost an Apple Watch SE
    • What a passionate thread this is. I have worked in cycling for years, am a cyclist, a driver, use public transport etc. Driving last night with my two young kids, who also cycle, we made the same observations. It was the kids who first asked me why are most cyclists wearing full black and no lights. We then played a game who can spot all the cyclists, and count those with lights and those without. This teaches them to look out for them but also not to put themselves in a position where we have to strain to find them.
