NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, links below.

On Oct 29th we will have 2 rides, both approx. 3 hours in duration both heading into north London. Registration on Eventbrite as usual. Note if all places are already booked it is worth checking back as there are occasional cancellations during the week. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling.

Last week a rider punctured on both our rides. Very unusual. Please carry a spare inner tube or one of those kits for doing an instant repair (such as this one, https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/universal-puncture-repair-spray-nozzle/_/R-p-312454?mc=8573560).

Ride details

Peckham to Westminster and Camden Globes. < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/world-reimagined-cycle-ride-westminster-and-camden-globes-tickets-449480928557 >

Philippa leading. More of the “World Reimagined” globes. Over the last few weeks we have ridden to the Globes in the City and in Lambeth and Southwark. Now another set of London Globes in Westminster and Camden. Start/finish Peckham Square, stat 10am. Not a long ride, leaving plenty time for reading the information at each globe, estimate back at Peckham about 1pm. Route will be over Waterloo Bridge, Covent Garden, Kings Cross (Coal Drops yard etc) and coffee stop in Camden. Official route for these globes is at https://jod.theworldreimagined.org/trails/london/london:-camden---westminster/3 but note we are not going to get to them all.

London Bridge to Parliament Hill < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-parliament-hill-fields-cycle-ride-tickets-449475191397 >

Bruce leading. 13 mile loop with time to compare the views from Parliament Hill and Primrose Hill. 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. Start/finish Southwark Gateway Needle, south east side of London Bridge, close to the station. Outward route will pass St Pauls, pause at Kings Cross (Granary Square), through atmospheric St Pancras Cemetery, then roads (some busy) to Parliament Hill Fields. Will stop at the Café for a break. Energetic riders can walk up to the viewpoint – there will be time for that. Return route will pass the Roundhouse then ascend Primrose Hill. From there go through Regents Park, then across Bloomsbury, past UCL and the British Museum.

Finally join the Cycleway as far as the Monument before crossing back over London Bridge. A mostly quiet route except for about a mile along Kentish Town Road and Highgate Road. Report on previous ride at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/ride-reports-jan-22nd-2022/ . Route at

These rides are part of the Healthy Riders group, organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/. Like everything else we do, our activities are all free. We co-operate with other London Cycling Campaign groups like Greenwich Cyclists. The LCC details are here: https://lcc.org.uk/.

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
