We are a welcoming family looking for a wonderful and committed person to work with our sons (8 years and 10 years old) as a part-time, after-school nanny, 2-3 days per week.

The job is well-paid to reflect the unique nature of the role.

We are based in SE4 (Ladywell/Crofton Park).

The job starts at beginning of January 2023, though an earlier start is possible.

Our youngest son (age 8) has significant additional needs - he has Down's Syndrome, is autistic and non-verbal. A substantial part of the role involves taking care of him and playing with him.

The person also needs to be able to build a positive relationship with our 10 (nearly 11) year old son in an age-appropriate way and to balance the needs of the two brothers.

The role involves being home to greet the boys from school, giving them a meal and playing at home.

3pm-6.30pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays = core days.

Some Mondays and Thursdays (similar hours) by mutual agreement.

We are looking for someone who:

• is patient and willing to learn

• has substantial experience caring for young children, or children with SEN, or a keen interest in developing this experience

• is comfortable with nappy changing and personal care for an older child

• is physically fit and able meet the physical demands of the role

• is able to follow specific instructions and a clear routine, including giving regular medications

• is creative, playful and open to learning about the specialist approaches used for our youngest son

Full training will be provided, along with a nanny contract and holiday pay.

Additional hours will be available, especially in the school holidays (by mutual agreement).

Our last two nannies were with us for over 4 years and 2 years respectively and were highly valued by the whole family.

Please be in touch with any questions or for an informal chat. Tel 07932 744706

Many thanks

Ruth

    • Another recommendation for Maurice Hinds! He installed a new handbasin in my small bathroom, and did a lovely job.  I would absolutely recommend Maurice for plumbing work.  He is very helpful, friendly and did a tidy and efficient job, and his work is reasonably priced.
    • Sure. He is ideological driven on many things. He was the person that defended the blanket CPZ policy because he believed that 'if you asked most people in southwark if all parking should be paid for, most would say yes'. A completely unfounded belief not backed by any evidence. In the real world, that policy caused significant local electoral damage for some councillors. I personally see his disillusion with the Labour Party as one of his idealism vs the reality of governance. He will probably be much happier with the Greens.
    • Arguably, as regards local needs for free(er) flowing traffic and some acknowledgement of expressed wishes he hasn't been. The 'active travel' and particularly the cycling lobby seems to have got far more of his attention than others. In that aspect, at least he would seem to be far more likely to be happy amongst the avowedly private-car hating Greens. A perfectly reasonable stance, of course, but one which certainly doesn't qualify as 'arguing for local needs'. He hasn't, equally, been very obviously supportive of those, his direct constituents I believe, who have been less than enthusiastic about Gala.
