These rides are good ways to learn safe ways to get around the borough. Another good way is to use cycle.travel to find the safest routes.

NOTE 1. You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, links below.

Note 2. Ride reports, often with photos and route maps, are posted to the Southwark Cyclists web site, 2022 index at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/

We have 2 rides for Dec 3rd, one 3.5 hours, one 2.5 hours. Remember you should register on Eventbrite, details below. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling (How to cancel).

Ride 1. 7 Views < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/7-views-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-475343955567 >

Start 10am, Peckham Square (by Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY), Ride Leader Jamie. This will be latest edition of our famed 7 views ride. Starting in Peckham and travelling to Greenwich Park via multiple viewpoints including (probably) little known viewpoints like The Point on Blackheath.

Inevitably some uphills, only one steep one and you can walk this. Having looked at the views from the hills will extend the ride for some river views. Will head across to Woolwich, tunnel under the river and return along the north side (more views) to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. The ride will officially end there, but n extra 30 min guided ride back to Peckham will be offered for anyone needing it. Expect to back at Greenwich before 1.30.

Ride 2. Battersea power Station < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-to-battersea-power-station-cycle-ride-tickets-475345209317>

Battersea Power Station is now open. The aim of this ride is to get there and have a short time to go inside and have a look. Start 10am, Peckham Square (by Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY). Outward route Burgess Park, Tradescant Memorial, 9 Elms station, Sky pool, American embassy.

Return Thessaly Rd, Larkhall Park, Stockwell Bus Station, Myatts Fields, Burgess Park. 10 miles (16km). Flat. Mostly quiet streets. Everyone welcome. Bruce leading. Google map:

These rides are part of the Healthy Riders group, organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/. Like everything else we do, our activities are all free. We co-operate with other London Cycling Campaign groups like Greenwich Cyclists. The LCC details are here: https://lcc.org.uk/.

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
