For sale on behalf of Save the Children charity:

A kindly donated unique hand made vintage Childs cotton patchwork and embroidered coat, possibly from the '50s judging by the prints used. It is lined in a plain calico type cotton, and the length has been altered at some point. Each patch and seam is outlined in hand embroidery in different colours. There are three metal flower buttons at the front, hand made buttonholes and a pink frill around the neck.

The interior shows two slight patches of slight staining/bleed through from colour run from the exterior patches. There are also two side belt loops, but no belt. The lower hem edge has a couple of patches of very slight wear, but it is otherwise in a fair condition.

Measurements are:

Total back neck to hem: 75cm

Underarm circumference: 65CM

I estimate it would fit a 3-4 year old.

This is a truly unique piece and deserves to find an owner who will appreciate the unique character and creativity in this coat.

PRICE: £35.00, from SE3

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
