We have 2 rides for Jan 28th. One is a repeat of our much-loved Royal Docks loop. The other is a new short ride to Regents Park. Remember to register on Eventbrite and if you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling (How to cancel )

Ride 1. Royal Docks Loop from Greenwich. < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/greenwich-to-royal-docks-loop-tickets-522072211037 >

Jamie leading. About 13 miles. Start 10am at Cutty Sark next to the Foot Tunnel. Finish around 1pm (allowing time for a coffee break). Start through Foot Tunnel then east side of Isle of Dogs to Blackwall, East India Dock Basin, Lee flyover cycle path, Royal Victoria Dock, Excel Centre, Royal Albert Dock, London City Airport.

Start return over Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge, then across Woolwich Ferry (or if just miss one via Foot Tunnel). Back along Thames Path (NCN 4) past Flood Barrier and O2. Map at

We last did this ride on May 28th last year. It was somewhat eventful. The ride report is worth a read! (https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/ride-report-28th-may-2022/.

Ride 2. London Bridge to Regents Park < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-regents-park-cycle-ride-tickets-522073986347 >

Bruce leading. Start 10am, Southwark Needle, south side of London Bridge. 2 hours. Finish back at London Bridge ca 12 noon. About 15km (10 miles), pretty much flat. Route using mostly segregated lanes or quiet streets with just a few short stetches of busy road. Out across the City, Cycleway 6, Tavistock Place (LCN 6), Top end of Tottenham Court Road, into Park at Chester Gate. Round the Inner Circle then exit York Gate and return on route touching the outward one at Gower St (UCL), then past British museum, Covent Garden, on to Cycleway 3, Monument and back to London Bridge. Lots to see. No coffee break as just a short ride. Maybe time for a coffee at the end.

These rides are part of the Healthy Riders group, organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/. Like everything else we do, our activities are all free. We co-operate with other London Cycling Campaign groups like Greenwich Cyclists. The LCC details are here: https://lcc.org.uk/.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
