Hi

I have a puppy who is just 11 weeks old and I have the option of joining a puppy class (which I do want to do) but the classes are at 1pm (usually this is when she is sleeping) and she will only be 12 weeks. The classes are with Dulwich Dog School.

Does anyone else have any experience with doing a 1pm class? How did it work with the usual dog nap? Is 12 weeks too young to start?

Really confused and would love some advice. This is my first dog and so really appreciate hearing from people who have been there.

Also is it just me but is 1pm a really unusual time for a training class? All the stuff I have read online about puppy routines has puppies doing a lunchtime nap. This is the only local class I have found - why do a 1pm class? Am I missing something???

Hello BlueOrchid.

Hope your pup is thriving. Certainly I don't want to cause any offence though I think you might be being a little overzealous. Remember that your puppy is a dog, the descendant of wolves. It's not a human baby. Try a slightly earlier or later nap (or both if need be) go to the 1pm class regardless as to whether it's slept and see how the dog gets on. Good luck!

Administrator please stick this in The Lounge.

I agree with Spring Time - puppies don't need nap times. Like adult dogs, they just sleep whenever they need to.

I didn't bother with puppy classes, we've managed for thousands of years without them, so I don't really get the point. But I can assure you, your puppy will love the interaction and will be 'dog tired' when it's over, so there's no need to worry about it not getting enough sleep.

    • Blame me then as I will be voting for the Reform Party at the next general election after being a Conservative voter for many years.  Two tier Keir has just shot himself in the foot with his announcement about national insurance exemptions for Indian workers coming to the UK whilst he imposes the exact opposite on UK businesses.

    • Can't blame it just on Jazzer.  More than just one person to blame.  I'd start off with the Liv Dems going into coalition with the Tories.  But very much a six degrees of separation thing so we all must take a share of the blame 😔
