For Saturday Feb 18th we will have 2 rides. Intriguingly (and unintentionally) both rides will use the Thames path between Wapping and St Katherines mid morning, but going in opposite directions. Please take care while passing each other!

Ride 1. Peckham to Yurt Café, Limehouse < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-to-the-yurt-cafe-limehouse-cycle-ride-tickets-540938400317 >

The yurts are such a surprise, tucked away near the Limehouse Link. They house a Social Enterprise Community Cafe operated by The Royal Foundation of St Katharine. If you have never been there, try to join this ride. If you have been there before, then you will probably want to return!

Start 10am Peckham Square, next to Peckham library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY. Outward route going over Tower Bridge, through St Katherines Dock to Wapping, then turning onto CS3 for a tiny bit to get to the Yurt Cafe. Coffee break there then return through Limehouse Basin, Ropemakers Field, on to the Thames Path and cut across to Mudchute DLR (bring Travel Pass or equivalent). Alight Greenwich station and go along Greenwich High Rd the short distance to Cycle way 10, then follow this several miles to Abercorn Way, then left to Glengall Road and the Canal path to Peckham Square. Plan to be back by 1pm. Amanda leading.

Ride 2. Canada Water, Greenwich, London Bridge Loop. < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/copy-of-canada-water-greenwich-london-bridge-thameside-loop-cycle-ride-tickets-540926554887 >

This anti-clockwise loop follows the Thames on both banks. Lots of history and some fine views. 10am to 12.30pm. Start/finish Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station, SE16 7AR. Easy 11 mile ride using DLR to cross river at Greenwich (travel pass or equivalent needed) and returning over London Bridge.

Route includes Russia Woodland, Greenland Dock, Deptford Historic waterfront, Narrow St (Wapping), Shadwell Basin, Canal-side paths to St Katherines, the Monument. Coffee stop on return leg (probably Bartons, Dockhead). No hills, mostly off road, cycle lanes or quiet streets. Simon K. leading. It will be possible to join the ride at Greenwich Station.

Meet 10.25am outside the front of the station on Greenwich High Rd, near the Novotel (not by the DLR entrance). Map of probable route here:

These rides are part of the Healthy Riders group, organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/. Like everything else we do, our activities are all free. We co-operate with other London Cycling Campaign groups like Greenwich Cyclists. The LCC details are here: https://lcc.org.uk/.

    • Yep Peter Mandelson is officially toast.  But what now MUST happen is that the title of Lord and all the privileges which go with that should be removed immediately. It's a long way up the pole but it's an even longer way back down as Mandelson is finding out.
    • Christ. When the licence fee is under such scrutiny, this doesn't seem like a great time to spend cash exhuming this pair of swivel-eyed loons, even for comedy value. Spoiler alert: Boudicca Rising (!) left Tony.
    • Would YOU trust the Met with your personal data? No chance. And why are you required to Register? They are a Police Service, not the FBI or CIA.
    • So your remedy for anyone harming an animal, amongst which I assume you include at least all insects, is, well, to kill an animal. Good and logical call. Hyperbole only gets you so far, you know.
