Why not ?? Better to be home than use someone's else's energy just a thought

Really? This is a very simplistic and totally unhelpful comment.

Take your pick of potential reasons why I could not work from home:

- major building work means no power for the day

- replacement wifi means no internet access that day

- need to be within 10min of walking distance to King Sports Ground for 6 hours

- pest fumigation needed at the house for the day

- removal people packing up the house

- fear of alien abduction as forecasted in the doomsday book for anyone living at this house number...

Ps: one of them is the real one but most are perfectly reasonable!

you forgot some more

- cheaper to use other people's internet

- save on your electricity

- don't want to be in for some reason (who knows)

you can take your pick and maybe one of them is spot on

or if its for work just take a day off ... just saying

seriously, do you have nothing better to contribute?

just to close this post off:

nope, none of the ones you listed were correct.

I was looking for a proper co-working location where you exchange money for the ability to use wifi & electricity.

I used those frequently pre-pandemic.

There seem to be none in the location I needed to be in.

So instead I spend money on delicious food & coffee in a number of places.

Would it have been cheaper to stay at home? Yes - so you can get off the insinuation I am trying to use someone else's electricity for free.

Could I have taken the day off? Sure, but I am not in the habit to let customers down, so work needed to be done.

I'll give you a more sensible answer as I've searched for the same thing (but around ED/Peckham and not Brockley/HoP)

Most proper co-workspaces will charge you £50+ a month upwards for a hotdesk and more for a fixed one. There isn't anywhere local which does a 'free' model as far as I'm aware.

Obviously not your requested area, but there Market Peckham which does a trial for £40.

Or maybe ask some local co-workspaces if you can have a free trial day as it sounds like you want to do this for a one-off.

Otherwise, you'd probably have to look for a cafe which opens early. Most cafes are fine with people working there as long as you keep the coffees coming!

Pubs are another option but most of them open at 12pm, so not useful for mornings.

Thank you, Joe.

Yes I did find the various places that offer monthly desks -its not quite what I needed.

I was hoping for places that allow use on a single day (paid!) basis -e.g further in town you can use the likes of HubbleHQ and Andco to book a day pass but nothing came up on Google. I just thought maybe someone local knew of a gem that I had missed!

    • Hello We are looking to get a dog of 1 year plus - know how hard puppy training is and want to avoid it! Also keen to know dog’s personality before we jump in as friends have had very difficult experiences with puppies who turned out to be tricky.  Ideally would like to adopt but also open to buying - does anyone have any ideas of where one might buy a dog?  thanks in advance!
    • I think you have been very kind towards the the council.  And even kinder in your description of Peckham High Street (LOL). Peckham High Street Rye Lane is awful.  I know it is a very controversial opinion   but I am happy that some parts are going to developed and re built.   The dirty pavements, graffiti shops that put their stock all over pavements and racing cyclists make it not an enjoyable place to be in.  In the old days any business would have to keep their premises in good order.   I am much happier being near a simple bit of over greenery or weed.   It is much cleaner and feels safer to be next to.   Some parts of Peckham are plagued by Zombie like people who have fallen prey to substance abuse.  And I don't see the council putting much effort into helping these poor lost souls.
    • Our refuse collectors leave rubbish all the way down the hill after they have emptied the bins. Everywhere you go you see rubbish everywhere. On some days walking through the high street in Peckham can be truly depressing with plastic bags and paper blowing around everywhere, Peckham and other streets deserve better than this Council complacency. I'm sure it wasn't so bad back in the day. Councils everywhere, faced with cuts in revenue, must have decided a long time ago  that litter picking  and rubbish collection were not so important. I think a clean, tidy environment makes everyone feel better about their home environment. Btw, I'm ok with a few weeds. They are just wild flowers in an inconvenient place.
    • Have just enjoyed watching 100s of cyclists go past on Peckham Rye west. Couple of penny farthings, lit up bikes and music too!
