For Saturday Mar 25th we will have 2 rides, one all day and one 3.5 hours, details below. No short ride this week.

Ride 1. Twelve London Cats < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/twelve-london-cats-cycle-ride-tickets-588559817257 >

Start 10am, London Bridge (Southwark Needle). Jane leading this 13 mile ride. This is a fun ride in which we will see at least 12 London Cats portrayed in stone, wood, bronze and gold, so it's hypoallergenic - though we may spot Hodge the resident mouser at Southwark Cathedral. Starting in SE1 and The City, on to Bloomsbury, up to Mornington Crescent & back via Covent Garden and Strand, ending at The Little Cat Cafe in Myatts Fields.

Some short stretches on busy roads but mostly on quieter cycle routes. It will be stop/start with pauses (pawses?) for information en route and a coffee stop probably at Russell Square. Note that we are not finishing at the start location, so make sure you have looked at your route home from Myatts Fields. Jane will be happy to suggest routes if needed. Ride 2. Annual Southwark Cyclists Boat Race Ride < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/annual-southwark-cyclists-boat-race-ride-tickets-588572214337 >

Start 10am from Waterloo Station (Victory Arch). Jamie leading and aiming to be back at Waterloo at 4pm. The boat race is of course on Sunday. The aim here is to ride the course and observe some of the preparations on the day before. This is a relaxed and social event that involves some enjoyable cycling in stages for about 25 miles in all. 80% of our route is on quieter roads and some unsurfaced river paths.

This circular route is predominantly flat. Route outward Westminster Bridge, Millbank, Chelsea Bridge, Battersea Park, Putney Embankment, Mortlake, Barnes Bridge before crossing the river by the finish post at Chiswick Bridge. Return route starts on north bank to Fulham Palace, then Battersea Bridge and the Power Station and on to Waterloo Station. Lunch will be around 12.30 at The Ship Inn at Chiswick Bridge overlooking the finish. Riders are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunch/snack should they so wish.

Full ride information is on Eventbrite. To ensure you have a fun and safe day make sure you carefully read Jamie’s ride information. Report on last year’s ride at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/ride-reports-2-april-2022/

Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. Do not turn up to these events if you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 or are currently testing positive. Note that all planned rides are subject to change last minute due to strikes, illness, extreme weather etc. Whenever possible we will keep start time and place as advertised. We will always try to contact registered riders by e-mail.

    • Hi all, Wondering if anyone else in/around SE22 is also having the unfortunate luck of having Evri parcels delivered by a very rude individual? Whenever we have parcels delivered, our front gate is being slammed open and closed, ring doorbell is harshly banged (not pressed) followed by simultaneously banging on the door knocker and slamming the letter box multiple times. Someone is normally home by the time they come in the evening and never has to wait long for an answer. If we’re not home, we speak to them on the doorbell so we do find the actions of this individual unreasonable and rude.  We have tried a couple of times politely asking that they not do this but they are very dismissive and gives a passive-aggressive “have a nice day” reply.  Has anyone been able to contact Evri and successfully had any issues similar to this resolved? We have enough evidence through our doorbell footage but we are lost with what else we can do. We’ve tried asking politely but don’t want our gate or door damaged by someone who simply doesn’t care and lacks basic manners.    If anyone else is having this issue or has any advice on how we can report this, it would be much appreciated. After another dismissive reply to my concern this afternoon, I will be calling Evri tomorrow to raise a complaint. I have lost my patience with them
    • Corbyn was unelectable - he got trashed by Boris who was a buffoon. It was a good job too because I would have hated to see Corbyn and his rag-tag bunch of far-left university politics backbenchers try to lead the country through Covid.  It is completely understandable why Starmer and the Labour Party want to purge Momentum from within their ranks and Cllr McAsh has fallen victim of that.

    • Hello.   Thanks Nigel and Hparker 😀   I've got new slots available for new students looking for a piano teacher or guitar teacher.   You could start in the new term beginning September, or I'm also available adhoc-styles through the summer holidays at times.   I teach all ages, in most styles, in lots of different ways according to how you learn/like to learn.   Give me a call or text on 07730 402336.   I have connections to lots of performance opportunities/networks too.   I run regular events /student concerts, and play in bands/perform.   Natalie.
