Just to make Parents aware, my son has been subjected to attempted mugging outside the junction of The Gardens. Forest Hill road near Harris Boys School. 3 black Boys 1 black girl pinned my son down to the ground trying to steal his phone. Lucky enough a gentleman in a white van pulled over scared them off and helped him out.

My son has mentioned a white and black uniform which they was all in they was about 15 to 16 age.

That sounds very unpleasant. Please do tell your son's school, as well as the [police] Safer Neighbourhood Team. These kids seem to carry on doing this stuff until they're picked up - which they often do because they are not master criminals.

Not in any way to excuse or belittle what has happened here, but when my children were teenagers (20 and more years ago) such muggings were very common (and just as awful to suffer) - I can recall one (male) friend of my children reckoning he and his friends were mugged for phones every 3 or 4 months!

That sort of crime is far less now, it seems (phones aren't such a catch now, I'm guessing). Let's hope this is not the start of another upswing.

My younger daughter's phone was in such a battered state that when she was last mugged (the second or third attack she suffered) the mugger gave it back, urging her to persuade her father to get her a better phone!

    • I don't think I've ever seen it used other than for gluing advertising on it. It's definitely not a priority but these things typically get ignored and become part of the furniture (so to speak).  There is a beautiful old red box near Upland Rd. I miss old red boxes... 😞 Anyway I'll have a dig around and see if anything can be done.
    • £30-40 for M&S Christmas food for two seems very low! And only £60 for food and drink for 8-10 people?  We have had M&S food at Christmas in the past, and it came to a lot more than that. I suppose it depends exactly what you are buying. We left it late to book a Christmas Day meal out last year, so there weren't many options left.  The Cherry Tree menu looked very nice. That was our first mistake. We also overlooked the fact that it was a Young's pub, with all that implies about the food. That was our second mistake. We don't have shedloads of money. We  took the view that we deserved a nice meal  out after working bloody hard all year. So it was doubly disappointing to basically waste a lot of money which could have been very much better  spent elsewhere.
    • No sweetheart. It is a fantastic sermon which should be shared. It is a rights-based sermon which received a standing ovation - if you can be bothered to get to the end.
    • Welcome back. What have voting intentions got to do with this thread? And much as you may hate the present incarnation of so-called Labour, as do I,  I don't think it is true that they have "not done a single positive thing for working class people", is it? And how exactly are you defining "working class people", anyway?
