About eight months into a gruelling kitchen renovation project (I can also tell you which builder NOT to use…), I had rescheduled the kitchen delivery from IKEA and the fronts from Plykea multiple times, and was at the end of my tether. Losing faith in my amateur design ever fitting a space whose likely ultimate  dimensions seemed to change daily; so tired of having people I didn’t like, trust or respect in my house every day. There was zero good faith input into the project (which I as a sole adult resident was juggling with working full time), and as a result my enthusiasm for the project was draining away like the washing up water down the plughole in the (second floor!) bath. Trying to manage for an ever-shifting likely installation date, I read the reviews of IKEA’s ‘own’ (ie subcontracted) service and took the decision not to subject the last threads of my sanity to that. I came on here and within moments my mind was made up to approach Top Marx kitchens. With my budget wearing as thin as my will to cook another family meal on one travel hob/in the microwave, though, I feared I wouldn’t be able to afford such an obviously premium service, and was resigned to filing the quote in the ’if only’ folder. Lo and behold, the prompt and courteous email response containing MY ONLY UNDER-BUDGET QUOTE OF THE WHOLE JOB was the first delight of my experience with John and Gabi. The minute John came round I felt for the first time like there was someone on my team. His work is of an exceptional quality, he’s tidy, reliable, quick, honest, and takes not only an honourable approach to but also a real pride in his work. Both of them are responsive and collaborative, and I cannot overstate the positive impact they had on our house and our lives. John responded creatively and thriftily to the (many!!) challenges that emerged throughout the installation, and we are all thrilled with the result. If I were ever going to do a kitchen again, I would enlist John from the very beginning, as he combines his practical and pragmatic approach and great technical skills with both an engineer’s problem-solving ability and a keen eye for aesthetics and design. 11/10 ️

    • It’s really not the big deal other people (who generally don’t own EVs) claim it is. Full charged our Polestar 2 has a range of 250 miles. It only really gets used for shortish runs to Costco or places that a pain by public transport. Even when my wife commuted with it most days, it still only needed charging every other week.   Generally, I recharge when we hit 20-25% and top it back up to 80-90%. That’s an overnight charge on the char.gy on street chargers at the off peak (midnight to 7am) tariff. There are five chargers on Everthorpe Rd, another three on Oxenford St and at least another five in the surrounding streets - all of these are a five minute walk from my house. So a ten minute detour after dinner on evening to start charging and then another ten minutes to pick it up.  In the unlikely event they were all full/blocked (which hasn’t happened in three years of ownership) then either I’d leave it for another day or if I really needed to go somewhere further than say 30 miles I’d stop at a super fast (150kW) charger and pay the higher fee for a top up (70-80p per kW vs 35p per kW). We sometimes do use the expensive fast chargers when we do longer trips but not that often.  If we were a family that drove 100+ miles a day regularly then having an EV without off street parking wouldn’t work for us, but for us (and I expect most Londoners who have a car) it’s fine. A car club and occasional car hire would probably be cheaper for us, but the convenience makes it worthwhile.  Overall, even with the price hikes for public chargers I still think it’s marginally cheaper than our old diesel.   EDIT: When I owned a combustion engine car I also tended to refill when I hit quarter of a tank
    • Anyone have one they’re getting rid a baby gate or dog gate.
    • Hi East Dulwich neighbours. I rarely write reviews but am putting this here because I did the leg-work and found a solid, affordable plumber. I had a flooded downstairs bathroom as a result of a cracked toilet. Not nice, needed to be fixed quickly. Sam arrived on time and spent several hours diasgnosing the problem, keeping me updated with costs, finding new toilet and installing. All in a single afternoon. The most important thing was that I immediately knew I could trust him and that he kept me updated with costs throughout the job. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing plumbing work, especially urgent jobs that need fixing immediately. His number is  02036030116.  Cheers, HAPPY CUSTOMER!
